(S) From the Refuge de Moëde-Anterne, the direction of the pass is obvious, overlooking the refuge to the north. Start off to the north-west: the good quality trail winds its way up the mountainside and joins theGR®5(white and red markings).
(1) Turn right and follow it north towards the pass and Lac d'Anterne.
(2) The view from the pass is superb in good weather, with a view of Mont Blanc, and is well worth a break. The descent to Lac d'Anterne is via the same path, continuing north-northeast. The lake only comes into view after you have rounded a small hill.
(3) Return to the pass via the same route.
(2) Descend down the south side.
(1) At the fork you took on the way up, as you approach the refuge, turn right and head towards Ayères on the road suitable for vehicles.
(4) It is possible to cut the switchbacks at various points during the descent. Look out for the "bear stone" with its distinctive profile.
(5) As you approach Ayères, there are two possible routes to reach Le Chatelet, either via Ayères or via Le Gouet. The attached itinerary shows the second option. Turn left, then left again at the next fork. Before the Souay chalets, turn right onto a path to cut across the bend in the road, then turn right again to reach the Châtelet d'Ayères refuge.
(6) Just after the refuge, leave the road (which is closed in summer 2016) and take the path on the left that you took the day before
(7) Leave the paths leading directly up to Plaine Joux on your right and head towards Lac Vert on your left.
(8) From the car park, turn right to reach the shore of Lac Vert (you can walk around it).
(9) Return to the car park.
(8) Turn right and follow the road west. At a hairpin bend to the right, leave the road and follow a path on the left. Join the road at a ski lift and follow it to the left to the Plaine Joux car park (E).
