Refuge de la Leisse walks

Four-day hike around the Grande Casse in the Vanoise National Park, starting from Pralognan. Highlights: crossing the rocks of Lac des Vaches, views of the Grande Casse and the Leisse Valley, all in an idyllic setting and in the company of marmots.

Day2 of the Grande Casse circular route, from the Refuge de la Leisse to the Refuge du Col du Palet, following theGR®55via Val Claret.

This route follows an unmarked but useful path between the Refuge de la Leisse and the Refuge de la Femma, crossing the Col de la Pierre Blanche.

The Franco-Italian Alpes Grées mountain range lies in Savoie on the French side, and spans two valleys in Italy: the Aosta Valley and the Piedmont Valley. Much of the Grées Alps is covered by two national parks: the Vanoise and the Gran Paradiso. A truly alpine route where you’ll remain above 2,300 metres, with magnificent views of the glaciers, not to mention the sections through the Fontine and Beaufort mountain pastures.

Day3 of a two-circular route in the Vanoise National Park, from the Refuge de la Femma to the Refuge de la Leisse. There’s nothing particularly complicated about this hike, where we’ll descend the Femma valley before climbing back up alongside the Leisse valley, which I’m particularly fond of.

A challenging two-day mini-trek in the heart of the Vanoise National Park between the resorts of Tignes and Val d’Isère, with several possible routes. Ideal for seasonal workers or for those who want to experience a night in a mountain refuge.

Day1 of the Grande Casse circular route, from Pralognan to the Refuge de la Leisse, passing close to the impressive Grande Casse, all in a wild setting dotted with lakes.

A little-used path leading to the Col de la Rocheure (2,911 m) runs alongside a myriad of small high-altitude lakes, before descending to the Refuge de la Femma. The ascent to the Col de Pierre-Blanche (2,842 m) is steady and not very well marked, even veering off the beaten track. The view is magnificent over the rocky Leisse valley, nestled between the giant peaks of the Grande Motte and the Grande Casse. Descend through these deserted landscapes towards the eagle’s nest that is the Refuge de la Leisse (2,487 m).

Day1 of this mini trek around Tignes – Val d’Isère, a magnificent hike in the heart of the Vanoise National Park starting from Tignes. This hike allows you to discover the wild valleys of the Leisse and the Femma. The GPX track may prove useful after the (5).

This ninth stage takes place in the Vanoise massif. First along the GR® 5 to Val Claret and then via the Via Alpina, which crosses the Haute Vanoise before rejoining the GR® 5.From the refuge, the path joins the GR® 5 at Plan de la Grassaz. The view opens out onto a vast plateau. The path passes Lake Grattaleu, the Refuge du Palet and the pass of the same name. It descends towards Val Claret and leaves the GR® 5 for the Haute Vanoise variant via the Via Alpina and the GR® 55. It climbs towards the Col de Fresse but bypasses it to reach the Col de la Leisse. The trail descends beneath the Grande Motte glacier, skirting the Lac des Nettes, and reaches the Refuge de la Leisse. At the Croé-Vie bridge, the Via Alpina leaves the GR® 55, heads for the Refuge d’Entre Deux Eaux, and crosses the Torrent de la Rocheure to rejoin the GR® 5. It climbs towards Lac des Lozières and then, at the foot of the glaciers, runs along a ridge overlooking the Doron Termignon valley and reaches the Refuge de l’Arpont.

A steady climb takes you to the Col de la Leisse (2,761 m), offering breathtaking views of the Grande Motte glacier, before descending to Tignes Val-Claret with, in the background, the Dôme de la Sache (3,588 m), the Pointe de la Grande Sassière and, to the left, the Col du Palet and the Pointe du Chardonnet.
