Description of the walk

Start from the Les Cours car park, situated to the west of the village, on the edge of the D211g.

(S/E) Follow the road southwards, i.e. away from the village. After about a hundred metres, turn right onto a path that climbs and joins the D2111e. Follow this road to the left, downhill for about 200 metres.

(1) Leave the tarmac road and take a wide track on the right which climbs slightly. Walk due south through the woodland, keeping parallel to the D2111a, which lies below on the left. The path then turns south-west, still running parallel to the road. At a T-junction, turn left towards the village of Les Certs, then ignore the Chemin de la Rune on your left.

(2) Shortly after the Les Certs wash house, turn left and head downhill. Cross the D2111a and continue down the road opposite. At a wooden gate, turn right, ignore a path on the left and follow the path that descends towards La Balme through the middle of a meadow. Further on, pass a mobile phone mast on the left and descend via a series of hairpin bends. Join a small road and follow it to the left. After about fifty metres, at a signpost, take a path leading down to the right towards the hamlet of La Balme. You’ll come out onto a dead-end road leading to a chalet; follow it to the left.

(3) At the next junction, turn sharply right and pass a small car park. At the T-junction, turn left and pass a wash house on the left, then a chapel on the right. At the crossroads, take the road on the left called Chemin de la Vieille Fontaine. You’ll come to a fountain with two basins (bench) and continue along a path (ignore the Chemin de la Cheminée on the right). Carry on straight ahead, heading north-north-east then north-east. You’ll reach the D211a below on the left and arrive at a tarmac road in the hamlet known as La Ville.

(4) Turn slightly to the right and head down this road. When it turns left at a 90° angle, follow the path opposite towards Les Châtains. Pass beneath the hamlet of Les Châtains, leaving a magnificent vaulted fountain on your left.

(5) Follow a road to the left at an acute angle and head uphill. Join the D211a, turn and follow it to the left to pass through the hamlet of Les Petits Châtains. At the municipal workshop, pass a road on your right leading to houses and continue along the D211a. At the next junction (with a road on the left), take a path on the right. Climb a short but steep slope. At a crossroads, go straight on and continue uphill. Pass the town hall and arrive at the church.

(6) Enter the cemetery on the left (close the gate behind you) and walk past the church on your right. Return to the D211a, follow it to the right and, shortly afterwards, at the library, turn right onto a path towards Les Cours. Follow this wide path and walk uphill to the Les Cours car park (S/E).

Thanks for sharing.
Be warned, although the start of the loop is a pleasant walk, the climb at the end is endless...
Perhaps the start of the hike should be reconsidered to avoid this long section.

A lovely little walk, though it’s not quite as ‘easy’ as it sounds, as it basically involves a long descent from the start, followed, of course, by a fairly steep climb for half the total distance. Perhaps it would be worth suggesting starting at the bottom of the circular route rather than at the top.

This hike is classified as ‘easy’, but I’d rate it as ‘moderate’ because of the steep climb at the end of the route
