Description of the walk

Red and white markings:GR®®

(S) From the Chambon car park, cross the dam (1) and, at the end of the dam, take a path that climbs up into the mountains (a sign indicatesGR®®54-GR®®50). After a hairpin bend, the path joins the road leading up to Mizoën; follow it, then after a bend and a small building, take a path on the left that climbs through the forest and up the mountain (signposted MizoënGR®®54GR®®50). After a few bends, the path joins a wider track, then the road. Cross this road, then take the path to the left of a few houses to reach the village of Mizoën. Then follow the main street.

Red and white markings:GR®®

(2) After a bend, at a junction, several signs point to “Plateau d’EmparrisGR®®50and 54”, “Les Aymes”, “Saint-Guigneret”, “Les Clots” and others. Take this road and follow theGR®® markings and the directions for Les Aymes and Les Clots where indicated. The path leaves the village and winds beneath a cliff, then joins a road to follow for a while, before taking the path that crosses Les Aymes.

Continue across the car park, staying on the GR®® trail. Follow the balcony path, leaving two paths on your right that lead down to Le Parizet.

(3) Further on, leave the discovery trail on your right and head towards Les Clots.

(4) Pass the refuge on your right and take the path that climbs. TheGR®® follows the waterfall, then crosses the platform overlooking it. Continue along the path until you reach a track.

(5) Cross the road and take the path opposite. After passing a few houses, the path joins the track. Follow it to the Chalet du Fay.

(6) Take a path that descends into the valley. It follows a stream and then climbs back up it. A little further up, at the junction with a wide track, cross the ford. On the other side of the stream stands a signpost marked “Plateau d’Emparis”

No signposting

(7) Keep strictly to the right, following the sign for “Lac Noir – Lac Cristallin”. The path climbs through a meadow, then between the rocks to reach a flat area where there is a signpost marked “Lac Cristallin”.

(8) The lake is a hundred metres to the right. Return to the signpost and follow the direction “Lac Noir”. Upon reaching the plateau, the path runs alongside several small lakes; continue straight ahead on the path, leaving two paths on the left, to reach Lac Noir.

(9) Several paths lead off from the southern shore of the lake. Whichever one you take, they eventually join up and descend towards Lac Lerié.

(10) Continue along the path to a signpost marked “Le Plateau”.

(11) Head towards Le Chazelet. The path descends and joins the GR®®.

Red and white markings to the end:GR®®

(12) Follow the cliff-top path to the right, heading due east. Pass several gullies (Rif).

(13) A small hill where the descent to Le Chazelet begins. During the descent, a signpost indicates two possible routes to Le Chazelet; stay on theGR®®.
At the bottom of the valley, cross the bridge, then take the road that climbs back up towards Le Chazelet.

(14) Walk through the hamlet, then take the access road to Le Chazelet. At the first bend, after a wayside shrine and a footbridge offering views of the Grave valley, take the path that cuts across the road’s hairpin bends.
At the entrance to Les Terrasses, just as the road makes another bend, take the street leading into the hamlet and cross the road in front of the church.

(15) Continue downhill following the signposts, then leave the hamlet via a path that descends through the meadows and enters La Grave.

Walk past the church in La Grave, continue downhill, then take Rue du Grand-Chemin, which further on becomes Rue de Babiole. Just after the Edelweiss inn, take a flight of steps leading down to the A-road. Turn left to reach the tourist office, opposite the post office (E).
