(S/E) Start from the Châtillon-en-Bazois marina (parking available in the marina car park). Set off with the castle behind you, on your left, facing the marina. Walk along the canal taking the path on the left, between locks 14 and 15.
Walk alongside the castle gardens towards the church in Châtillon-en-Bazois. Cross via lock 14 and turn right to head down towards the canal. At lock 15, take the wooden bridge to return to the marina.
Follow the towpath along the Canal du Nivernais, turning left. The ‘Voie Verte’ is tarmac-surfaced and accessible to all.
(1) At Lock 16 in Cœuillon, turn left and cross the bridge. Also take the small jetty with its handrail (marked with the yellowPR® trail sign). After the lock, join the village road on the right towards Cœuillon. Follow the yellow markings.
(2) On leaving the village, after the large oak tree, turn right onto the path between the meadows.
(3) At Pont, leave thePR® trail and rejoin the road on the right.
Cross the Nivernais Canal and continue along the tarmac road towards Alluy, keeping the grassy paths on your right and the greenway on your left. You will then rejoin the yellow markings of thePR® trail.
At the entrance to Alluy, leave thePR® trail, continue straight on and take the first right leading to the village square. This opens onto the Church of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul and its 12th-century crypt, which is listed as a historic monument.
(4) With your back to the church, rejoin thePR® by heading straight on and then turning left. Leave Alluy via the village road to head towards the Nivernais Canal, which you followed on the way there.
(5) Turn right and, just past the house, take the small path on the left which leads to the canal. Return to Châtillon-en-Bazois via the greenway (S/E).
