Departure from Place Lafayette (car park).
The entire route is marked with red signs.
(S/E) Take Rue du Guichet, cross Route de Château-Chinon and head opposite into Rue Coulon. Turn left onto Rue Champmartin, then left again onto Route du Bois de Chaume. Leave this road and take Chemin des Vignes de Champmartin on the right, which leads to the old winegrowers' house. You will come to a crossroads with a lovely view.
(1) Turn right and continue straight on until you reach the road.
(2) At the intersection, turn left towards Les Vaux and Les Chaumes de Grandry.
(3) After Chaumes de Grandry, descend to the left towards Les Granges.
(4) Turn right to reach Les Granges and right again onto the path. Continue straight ahead through Les Roches.
(5) At the three-way junction, take the path to the right and follow it to the road. Most of the climb ends here on the slopes of Montalvaut, after about 9 km of walking to reach the road.
(6) Turn right and follow it for about 2 km. At the edge of the forest, the road makes an S-bend. Join the start of a grassy path on the right in the left-hand bend that follows.
(7) Leave the road and turn right onto this grassy path to reach Les Soulins.
(8) At the junction with the road, turn left, admire the villa of Père Jean and its flower-filled fallow land, then turn left towards the Morvan houses of Les Ranviers.
(9) At Les Ranviers, rejoin the road and turn right.
(10) Cross the D18, then continue straight ahead to cross the Champs Brideaux. Continue on and, after passing the foot of the pylon, turn right at the next intersection.
(11) Head back down towards Moulins-Engilbert on the D295, admiring the view of the village and its ancient13th-century castle (S/E).
