Via Le Puy Picard from Peyrelevade

This unmarked walk follows signposted paths and quiet country lanes with very little traffic. Most of the route takes you through woodland. The climb up to Puy des Horts offers lovely views of the countryside.

Description of the walk

On leaving Peyrelevade, coming from the Peyrelevade bridge via the D53, you can easily park at the side of the road.

(S/E) Take a wide path on the left as you head uphill, signposted towards Bois Barial.
Continue along the path through the forest, keeping to the left.

(1) When you reach the road, follow it to the left towards Chaunac.

(2) After the hamlet known as “Puy de Jou”, leave the road by taking a track that branches off to the left in a hairpin bend. The track is signposted towards Pont de Peyrlevade.
Head down into the forest, keeping to the right until you reach the road to Chaunac.
Follow the road to the left towards Les Brocs. At the junction, turn right towards Les Brocs.

(3) At the end of the road, turn left onto a path not shown on the map which descends towards the P.O.C. railway line.
Keep to the right until you reach the old “Paris–Orléans–Corrèze” railway line.
Take this track on the left towards the Peyrelevade Bridge.

(4) At the Peyrelevade Bridge, take the road on the right towards Tulle, cross the road (take care) and take the road that climbs up to the left towards Lavialle.
At the end of the road, turn left into the hamlet of Lavialle towards Guillemy; the road becomes a track

(5) After a good hundred metres, turn right off the Lavialle track onto a path not shown on the map, heading north-east towards Guillemy.

(6) Cross the Route de Saint-Clément (D7) and head up to the hamlet. Go round the hamlet on the right to find the path that joins the D53. The path may be overgrown with tall grass depending on the season.
Follow the road to the right towards Les Quatre Chemins.

(7) At the junction, take the road on the left towards Naves station. After about 200 m, take a detour to the right to climb up to Puy Picard and return.
Return to the road on the right towards Les Horts and leave it after the left-hand bend, taking the first path on the left towards Moulin de Pasquet. Head down this path, which continues after a right-hand bend, heading north-west until you reach the road.

(8) Take the D53 on the right towards the station. Cross the bridge, then head up the road to the left as far as Facherivière.
Follow the signs for Puy Grand on the right.

(9) On leaving Facherivière, turn left onto a track towards Puy Grand. When you reach the road, turn left onto it and continue to Puy Grand.

(10) At Puy Grand, at a place called l’Hermitage, before the sharp right-hand bend, head down the path on the left – the start of which is not marked on the map – towards Peyrelevade.
At the hamlet known as ‘le Canyon’, continue towards Peyrelevade and rejoin the road. Follow the road uphill to the right to return to the starting point (S/E).

We really enjoyed this walk. The sections on the road are short and there’s no traffic. The scenery is lovely. The only problem is that the detour at point 7 to climb up to Puy Picard no longer seems to be possible: the path is overgrown with brambles and fallen tree trunks, and ends in a dead end. From point 7, head straight to point 8 without taking any unnecessary detours.
Thank you for this route

A lovely walk, very easy to follow, with a great variety of scenery. The only REAL downside is that about a third of the route runs alongside the road, which isn’t very pleasant. But it left a good impression overall. Thank you for this route.
