Moure Bouchard via the Col de la Bournée

Snowshoe hike in the Fanget nature reserve, a site that lives up to its name. Ideal for those who want to enjoy nature in a peaceful environment: it feels like you're walking at the end of the world.

The site offers six snowshoe trails, but there are many variations possible: this one uses part of snowshoe trail No. 5: Négron.

Description of the walk

Park in one of the car parks at the Col du Fanget.

(S/E) Walk a few metres up the road towards the pass, then take the small tarmac road that leads to a hamlet of 3-4 houses. The start of the route follows snowshoe trail No. 5 Négron.

(1) Leave the tarmac road and take the path on the right, following the signs for snowshoe route 5. Stay on this wide track which climbs and enters a forest facing north with a few hairpin bends. Then turn south to reach a crossroads.

(2) Climb up to the right to easily reach the Plateau d'Iroire, continue on and you will come to another trail junction.

(3) Turn left towards Lauzerot/Auzet. You will easily reach the hamlet of Négron.

(4) Continue straight ahead, then leave trail number 5. Pass in front of a new sheepfold, then cross the stream and continue straight ahead on a track to reach the Claus crossroads.

(5) Continue straight ahead towards Lauzerot, entering a fairly sheltered valley that follows the Passavoux stream. You will reach another crossroads.

(6) Turn left, descend as close as possible to the stream and find the easiest place to cross it. Once on the other side, continue to follow it until you find a valley. Climb up to reach the Col de la Bournée.

(7) Continue left, still climbing, to reach the highest point of the hike: Moure Bouchard. Enjoy the view here.

(8) Descend opposite towards Claus, then turn right to reach a stream at Petit Paris. To descend, either go straight down the slope or zigzag, but be careful as the slope is steep and snowshoes are strongly recommended.

(9) Return to route no. 5, follow the stream before crossing it to climb up opposite. Reach the pastures.

(10) Cross the pastures to reach the Revondet farm. Continue on to return to the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(2) Retrace your steps to easily return to the Col du Fanget car park (S/E).

Notes

From (6) to (9), you are off the beaten track but it is easy to find your way.
At this point, snowshoes are really useful, as there are few passages.
(7) Alternative: you can extend the hike by climbing up to Clôt de Bouc from the Col de la Bournée.
(8) An ideal spot for a break, with numerous viewpoints.

Worth a visit

(S/E) Winter 2022/2023 A wonderful initiative by Louis, Martin and Kevin: three friends who are passionate about mountains, nature and good food have reopened the lodge, inn and mountain refreshment bar at the Fanget outdoor recreation area. The ideal spot for practising Randi'flette: a comprehensive activity combining sport and good food.
Or, on your return from the hike, the Fangi...flette.

Report by France 3
From (1) to (3), the route follows a "nature photo trail" to the Plateau d'Iroire: a photo exhibition on the fauna and flora of Roger Isoard, a predestined name. The photos are displayed in the biotope of each species.
Between (2) and (1) On the way down, you will notice an old building of which only the chimney remains. During the Second World War, a chalet belonging to the Basses Alpes "Youth Hostels" association, the Auberge du Fanget, was set up at the Col du Fanget, at an altitude of 1,500 metres. Simone Chaumet and Jamy Bissierier, in association with the Amitiés chrétiennes, welcomed a group of Jewish children placed there by the Garel network.
They remained there from 1943 until the Liberation, thanks to the help of the people of Auzet and Seynes-les-Alpes.
