Clot de Bouc from Le Fanget

Snowshoe hike in the Fanget wilderness area, a site that lives up to its name. Ideal for those who want to enjoy nature in a peaceful environment: it feels like you're walking at the end of the world.
The site offers six snowshoe trails, but there are many other routes you can take: this one is a variation of Moure Bouchard via the Col de la Bournée with a steeper climb, offering magnificent 360° panoramic views.

Description of the walk

Park in one of the car parks at Col du Fanget.

(S/E) Depending on the snow conditions, either climb directly from opposite the Auberge du Fanget, or walk a few metres up the road towards the pass, then take the small tarmac road that leads to a hamlet of 3-4 houses. The start follows snowshoe trail no. 5 Négron

(1) Climb up to the right to easily reach the Plateau d'Iroire, continue on and you will come to another crossroads.

(2) Turn left towards Lauzerot/Auzet. You will easily reach the hamlet of Négron.

(3) At the Négron sheepfold, continue straight ahead: you will leave trail no. 5, which descends to the left.
Pass in front of a sheepfold, then cross the stream and continue straight ahead on a track until you reach the Claus crossroads.

(4) Continue straight ahead towards Lauzerot, entering a fairly sheltered valley that follows the Passavoux stream.Descend as close as possible to the stream and keep to your left.

(5) Climb towards the Col de la Bournée. Before reaching the pass, you can start climbing on the right. The slope is steep, so don't hesitate to climb diagonally towards the summit of Clot de Bouc.
Both the ascent and descent are quite steep: snowshoes are essential, and this section is shared with many cross-country skiers.

(6) From the summit, enjoy the 360° panorama. Descend towards Col de la Bournée.

(7) From the pass, climb up opposite to reachMoure Bouchard.

(8) Descend opposite towards Claus, then turn right to reach a stream at Petit Paris. Descend either straight down the slope or zigzag, but be careful as the slope is steep and snowshoes are strongly recommended.

(9) Return to route no. 5, follow the stream on the right before crossing it to climb up opposite. Reach the pastures.
Cross them to reach the Revondet farm. Continue on to return to the initial crossroads you passed on the way there.

(1) Follow the same route back to easily return to the Col du Fanget car park (S/E).

Notes

From (4) to (9), you are off the marked trail but it is easy to find your way.
Snowshoes are really useful at this point, as there are few passages.

(6) Ideal spot for a break, with numerous viewpoints. (beware of the wind)

Worth a visit

(S/E) Since winter2022/2023, Louis, Martin and Élise, three friends who are passionate about mountains, nature and good food, have reopened the mountain lodge, inn and refreshment bar in the Fanget wilderness. It's the ideal spot for Le Randi'flette: a comprehensive activity combining sport and good food.
Or, on your return from a hike, the Fangi...flette.

From (S) to (2), the route follows a "nature photo trail" to the Plateau d'Iroire: a photo exhibition on the fauna and flora of Roger Isoard, a predestined name. The photos are displayed in the biotope of each species.

Between (1) and (E), on the way down, you will notice an old building of which only the chimney remains. During the Second World War, a chalet belonging to the Basses Alpes "Youth Hostels" association, the Auberge du Fanget, was set up at the Col du Fanget, at an altitude of 1,500 metres. Simone Chaumet and Jamy Bissierier, in association with the Amitiés chrétiennes, welcomed a colony of Jewish children placed there by the Garel network.
They remained there from 1943 until the Liberation, thanks to the help of the people of Auzet and Seynes-les-Alpes
