Modbury walks

A wild and rugged coastline. A hugely rewarding coast and estuary walk with peerless views from some of the most dramatic cliffs in the area. It ends with a huge vista of South Devon, and the welcoming sight of Kingston village snuggled amongst the fields.

From the edge of the moors into the AONB. A lovely wander following the valley of the River Erme, in an area where the wild beauty of the moor and the mellow delights of rolling South Devon meet and merge.

Stage 3 takes us right into the Dartmoor National Park and is where the original Two Moors Way starts. Once out of Ivybridge, past the old Stowford Paper Mill and out onto the moors, you really feel that you're on a long-distance trail. Look out for the MW signs as you work your way across the tops, through Scorriton to reach Holne.

A perfect taste of South Hams countryside. This inland walk bowls along on paths and green lanes, taking in hills and combes, gentle pasture, woodland and stream, with views across to the moor for good measure.

A circular walk through stunning scenery from Aveton Gifford to Bigbury following the tidal road, paths, tracks and the beach. There are excellent views of the Avon estuary and of the famous Burgh Island.

A perfect mix of riverside, ancient woodland and beautiful countryside. A beautiful leafy walk following the amber waters of the River Avon through classic English woodland, starting and finishing in the tranquil village of Loddiswell.

A lovely, safe dog walk, starting at the eastern car park for Woodleigh Woods. No road sections, so dogs can run off lead. Part of the walk is within the Woodland Trust woods, so please follow any instructions, close gates, pick up dog poo, etc …

A circular walk taking in the old haunts of Saxons and smugglers. Lush coastline and glittering sea, then amble back through the green fields of South Devon.

A meander through peaceful countryside and woodlands. Downstream from Aveton Gifford, the river Avon winds through its beautiful and secluded valley to the sea. This fine walk traces its course, and you are rarely out of sight of the estuary, or its rich birdlife.

Discover clues to the history of the town. A 1.5 hours easy walk around the town of Kingsbridge. Leave at least an extra hour if you wish to explore the museum, churches and pubs. Creeks and countryside. This walk exploring some of Kingsbridge estuary’s creeks – Bowcombe and Frogmore. Steep in places but the views are worth the climb!

A stroll through parkland and woodland. Stroll out of Kingsbridge for a tranquil dawdle through parkland meadow and dappled woodland, just a hop, skip and a jump from the town – an unexpected delight.

A delightful route following creeks and green lanes steeped in the trade and travel of past times. This short moderate walk offers melting views of the boat-bobbing estuary and charming South Hams countryside, and a host of waterfowl and wading birds into the bargain.

Amazing views over the China clay works, mica pits, and views across to Plymouth sound in one direction and moorland in the other.

This route follows the river upstream towards the Avon Dam, before skirting around the reservoir and then follows a section of the Abbot's Way, a long-distance walk across Dartmoor. Continuing around the back of the reservoir, around Huntington Warren, and the clapper bridge. Leaving the river and up to the Red Lake, disused China Clay Works, and the Tip. The route back then follows an old disused tram track, across Brent Moor, passing the Water Treatment Works, back to the start.
