Mex - Chindonne

During this beautiful stage of the Tour des Dents du Midi, you will cross pastures and forests to reach Chindonne. As the stage is quite short, you will not miss climbing the Dent de Valerette, a magnificent viewpoint. You will then enjoy a panoramic view of the Dents du Midi and the Rhône valley.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Tour of the Dents du Midi and Petits Perrons

Signposting TDM Tour des Dents du Midi

(S) On the small square north of the Auberge de l'Armailli, take the track that branches off to the left just before a farm building. After passing a property, the track becomes a path. Continue north-northwest until you reach a crossroads.

(1) Ignore the path that branches off to the left. Stay on the TDM, which descends slightly to cross the Mauvoisin torrent. After the stream, climb back up to reach an intersection in a hairpin bend.

(2) Turn completely left and keep heading south-west. The slope becomes steeper. After about 500 metres, ignore a path that branches off to the right. At a bend, cross a stream. Continue under the trees and then in the open on the Chemin du Fahy. Pass a building and return to the other side of the stream. Continue to follow the TDM, which climbs further. After a few hairpin bends, the path becomes almost flat and arrives at the Châlabagne mountain pasture.

(3) After the house, take the small path on the left TDM towards Les Jeurs. Follow a balcony path to the Les Jeurs sports centre, which is also a stopover lodge.

(4) Turn 90° to the left and take the first path towards Chindonne to reach the day's stopover hostel (E).

As mentioned in the introduction, it is possible to climb the Dent de Valerette

(E) Pass the Chindonne hostel and rejoin a track at the level of a ski lift.

(5) Rejoin the TDM until the fork in the path to Dent de Valerette.

(6) Begin the easy climb to the summit of the Dent de Valerette.

(7) Enjoy the magnificent panorama. Follow the same route back down to the Chindonne hostel (E).
