(S) Coming from Uzemain, continue along the main street. Just before the bridge over the Canal des Vosges, turn left and follow the towpath, keeping the canal on your right, until you reach Les Forges d’Uzemain and Lock No. 18.
(1) Turn right onto the D3, cross the canal and follow the river stop basin until you reach a junction with a forest track on the left. Take the track on the left and continue, keeping the canal in the distance. At the Étang de l’Emprunt, the track temporarily moves away from the canal. After passing a clearing on your left, ignore two tracks on the right. The track turns left in a wide bend and leads to the Pont Tremblant lock.
(2) Do not cross the canal. Take the track on the right along the canal. At the end of this, before the buildings, take the path on the right, then the track on the left. After a few hundred metres, this leads to a seven-way junction.
(3) Continue along the well-marked track which climbs whilst turning right (be aware that there are no markings). At thethird junction with paths or tracks, just before a right-hand bend, leave the track and take the path on the far left of the two. This leads to a five-way junction.
(4) Turn left at a 90° angle onto the path. Follow it to a four-way junction with a track on the left.
(5) Turn right and follow a wide gully for a long way, with no real path for a very long stretch, heading north-west in the opposite direction to the track. Be careful not to be led astray by the first track you cross, which may appear to continue in the same direction, and stay on the gully (no signposting). Much further on, the path passes a shelter and continues as a track.
(6) At the crossroads in front of the Chapelle de la Miséricorde, continue in the same direction along the road opposite. After a right-hand bend and before a left-hand bend, you’ll reach the start of a path on the left.
(7) Leave the forest road and take the path on the left. Join a tarmac track and follow it to the left. After a right-hand bend, pass through the hamlet of Le Tolloy. Continue along a track for about 300 m past the hamlet and arrive at a crossroads just before the track bends to the right.
(8) Continue straight ahead along the path opposite. Much further on, cross a track. After a few hundred metres, the path continues as a track which joins a road after a right-hand bend.
(9) Turn left and arrive at Vioménil. Cross Rue de Bains les Bains and take Rue du Centre, with your back to the War Memorial. Continue straight on to the church.
(10) In front of the church, turn left, then immediately right, then left again and follow the street to the end at Place de la Fontaine Ronde.
(11) Turn right, with your back to the fountain, onto Rue de la Pille. At the end of the street, at the Y-junction, take the track on the left. Further on, cross the Saône and reach the Étang du Moulin.
(12) Continue straight on, cross the Saône again and follow it, keeping it on your left. After a long bend to the right, you’ll reach the crossroads at a place called La Pille.
(13) Leave the track on your right and continue along the right bank of the Saône until you reach a junction with a track leading uphill to the right in front of a building and a track on the left crossing the river.
(14) Turn left, cross the Saône and join another track.
(15) Follow this track to the right, heading south-west, until you reach a junction in a clearing with a building.
(16) Take the path on the right heading west. At the end of this, turn right and continue down into the forest. The path climbs again and leads to a trench crossed by a high-voltage power line. Continue a few metres past the high-voltage line to the start of a path that climbs steeply to the left through the vegetation (markings are barely visible).
(17) Turn left, heading due south. Continue along a track and follow it to the end.
(18) At the end, turn right for about 200 m and turn 90° onto a path on the left. Cross a track and join a path running perpendicular to it.
Follow the path to the right for a very short distance, then head left onto the path that joins a track.
(19) Take the track on the right. It crosses a first road. It joins a second road and continues on the other side of it, straight ahead on the left.
At the end of the track, continue straight ahead along a path that eventually joins a road at a bend.
(20) Follow the road to the left. Continue straight on until you reach a stop sign and Rue de la Gare. Continue to the right along the road (take care), until you reach some steps on the left after the right-hand bend at a pedestrian crossing.
(21) Go down the stairs, continue along the path, cross the Saône and reach Rue des Fabriques.
(22) Follow Rue des Fabriques to the left. At the three-way junction, take the winding uphill path to the right, leave Darney and reach a road near an antenna and a stadium at a place called Chalet Defrain.
(23) Turn right, then take the first left until you reach the Franco-Czechoslovak monument.
(24) Turn into the lane on the right and join the D460. Follow it to the left for 150 m. Then take a track on the right, followed by the D56 on the right for about 20 metres until you reach the start of a track on the left.
(25) Continue along the track. Cross two roads and join a third road after a left-hand bend.
(26) Follow the road to the right. It turns right in front of the lane leading to Lichecourt Castle, visible on the left shortly after the bend. Further on, pass the Forest House and reach the D164; cross it and enter Relanges.
(27) At the bend before the church, turn right onto the main street, passing a first wash house. Continue up to a square in front of a second wash house near a roundabout (E).
