Departure from Maintenon station.
(S/E) Take the street on the right, Avenue du Général de Gaulle, to go down towards the town. Cross the D18 and continue straight ahead, following the white and redGR®® markings. Cross the square on the left and continue along Rue Thiers.
Turn into the first street on the left (Rue du Pont Rouge) and cross the bridge over the Louis XIV canal and the Guéreau. Turn left and walk past the château.
(1) Cross the Eure and turn right onto Rue du Moulin. Just before the shopping centre, turn left onto Rue de la Bois Ramée, then take the path up to the right behind the centre. Continue along the path to Rue Jean Monnet.
(2) Turn right then left onto Allée de Saint-Piat. After about 500 metres, turn left onto the path going uphill and continue to the edge of the woods.
(3) Turn right. Pass a path on your right just after this and, after about 300 metres, turn right at a right angle just before you reach the edge of the woods (note: the signposting is not very visible). Continue straight on until you reach the D326.4. Turn right, then left onto the D136.5.
(4) After the hairpin bend, take the path to the right of the cemetery and continue straight ahead for 2.6 km to reach the D101.3.
(5) Turn right onto the D101.3, then immediately left onto the D101.7, which you will follow for 1.2 km. At the hairpin bend, take the path on the right for 1.2 km.
(6) At the edge of the woods, facing the new diversion, turn left downhill, then right under the bridge. Follow the path for 200 metres, then turn left and cross the Vacheresses stream (small concrete footbridge). When you reach the D104, turn right and then immediately left onto the D104.5. After the first bend, take the path on the right uphill. After 200 metres, go through the gate on your left leading to the grounds of Nogent-le-Roi Castle and turn right. Follow the path to the castle.
(7) Leave the grounds through the gate on the right and go down the steps immediately on the left. Cross the branch of the Eure (the Roulebois) and admire the half-timbered houses on the small square on the left.
(8) Go around the church via the D929, then turn right at the crossroads. After crossing the branch of the Eure again, turn left onto Rue des Clos. Continue along the path running alongside the Roulebois.
(9) At the crossroads, turn left onto the bridge, cross two streets and turn right after the town hall (former watchtower). At the roundabout, go straight ahead, cross the Eure and immediately turn left onto the path.
(10) Just before the old metal bridge, climb up the embankment and take the shaded path on the right, which runs along the platform of the old Maintenon to Dreux railway line. You arenow leaving the GRP®® trail.
Cross the D116a and continue almost opposite on the path, which is now on the left of the old railway line. Continue for 2 km, crossing two roads and a path in succession. When you reach the D166a, turn right and then immediately left.
(11) A small path runs alongside the road on the left, but it is not always clearly marked. Choose between this and the road depending on its condition. After 700 metres, cross the Drouette.
(12) Turn right. After the quarry, take the path on the left (you will see a yellowPR®® sign). After 900m, turn right at the crossroads at elevation 98. Ignore several turnings on the right and continue for 1km. At the end of the pond, turn right for about ten metres to reach the edge of the Canal de l'Eure (old wash house covered in graffiti).
(13) Turn left and follow the canal (you will leave the signposts).
(14) At the road, turn right onto the bridge then immediately left, along the canal but on the other bank (white and redGR®®655Omarkings). Continue to Maintenon.
(15) After the car park, turn left onto the D906, cross the bridge and then turn right onto the D18 at the first crossroads. Continue straight on to reach the station (S/E).
