The Libin Truffle Fields

Troufferies: a Walloon word meaning peat bogs, i.e. a place where peat is extracted. Peat was extracted in Libin from the Middle Ages until the 1930s. Come and stroll through a forest landscape of marshes, peat bogs, mud flats and moors... unusual in this part of the Ardennes.

Description of the walk

Parking on the N40, between Libin and Libramont, near the information boards at Château de Roumont.

Yellow rectangle 3 signpost

(S/E) With your back to the N40, take the forest path. Leave the path on your right; you will return this way. Walk along the hedge and you will see the Château de Roumont farm on your left. You will come to a fork.

(1) Turn right and, 100 metres further on, look for the path on your left, before the hunting chair.

(2) Turn left and follow this path, which becomes a track, for 500 metres until you reach a signpost.

(3) Turn right and walk along the wide stony path until you reach the crossroads at Sapin Pelzer.

(4) Turn right, leave the trees behind and discover the truffle fields on your right. At the open space with a bench, continue to your right, passing in front of the bench.

(5) Enter under the trees, cross the footbridge over the Ruisseau de Large Fontaine stream and walk to the place called La Haie Courbôle.

(6) Turn right and walk along the main path for 2 km to return to the starting point. Turn left and return to your car park (S/E).
