Description of the walk

Depart from Tisséo Canal du Midi station (line B, 15, 70) in front of the Conseil Général.

(S) Cross Boulevard de la Marquette towards the canal bank and head left towards the Port de l’Embouchure.

(1) When you reach the Béarnais lock, go up onto the bridge to cross it and return to the same side of the canal. Continue and go under the next bridge (narrow passage).

(2) Head up towards the Bassin de l'Embouchure. On the left, cross the road, taking care of the traffic, and go down to the edge of the Canal de Brienne to take the footbridge: enjoy the view. At the top, follow the pavement on the left to reach the pedestrian crossing with traffic lights. Turn right, follow the pavement to the Allée du Bassin des Filtres under the trees.

(3) Continue left along the basin to its end, then cross the bridge by turning right and pass the open-air café “Le Gros Arbre”. Stay on the pavement on the right to reach the shared path (for pedestrians and cyclists) under the ring road.

(4) Take this path to enter the Sept Deniers neighbourhood. Stay on the pavement on the right.

(5) Cross at the first pedestrian crossing on the left. Follow Route de Blagnac as far as Espace Job. Continue on the same side, go past the roundabout and head to the entrance to Parc Job on the left.

(6) Walk through this small park, going round the left-hand side of the “Les Moussaillons” nursery building and passing the neighbourhood’s communal compost bins. Continue and exit at the opposite end onto Allée Firmin Bouisset towards the Garonne embankment. Walk straight ahead along this path to the Garonne.

(7) Turn left towards Toulouse city centre. Keep to the right to admire the river. Before passing under the ring road bridge, turn left and stay on the pavement on the right as you pass under the bridge. Immediately take the path that continues straight on to Les Amidonniers.

(8) Turn left at the junction before the basin, continue to Rue des Amidonniers, cross over and take the bridge on the right to rejoin Allée du Bassin des Filtres on the left. Return to Allée de Brienne.

(3) Turn right onto it. Find the pedestrian crossing with traffic lights and cross over to the Canal de Brienne. Follow it, turning right towards the town centre. You’ll see a footbridge; cross it to get over the canal and enjoy a picture-postcard view.

(9) Turn right to see the houseboats moored below on the right. Stay by the canal to avoid the traffic, but return to the pavement before the bridge at Parc Héraclès.

(10) Cross Allée de Barcelone and then Avenue Paul Séjourné. Head up the boulevard on the left to reach Boulevard Lascrosses, keeping well to the wide pavement on the right. Continue straight on until Compans Cafarelli, crossing the junction with Boulevard du Maréchal Leclerc. You have arrived (line B, 45, L1, L14) (E).

Notes

There are no drinking fountains; in very hot weather, despite the shade along the canal, bring a water bottle.
In strong winds, the section along the Garonne is exposed.
There are no public toilets along the route, except at the finish at the Compans Cafarelli shopping centre.
The ground is sometimes uneven; caution is advised to protect your ankles, which will be under strain.
The start and finish points are well served by public transport.
Plenty of places to eat at the finish.

You can visit the nearby Place de l’Europe and Compans Cafarelli Park; walking through the park will take you back to the starting point.
Or head into the city centre via Rue Lascrosses and Rue des Salenques. You then have two options:
- straight ahead along Rue des Lois to reach Place du Capitole
- turn left onto Rue Émile Cartailhac to reach the Musée St Raymond and the Basilica of St Sernin.

To return to the starting point (S) from the finish point (E), take metro line B.
