Start from the car park at the Port de l’Embouchure.
(S/E) Walk along the right-hand side of the Port de l’Embouchure towards Les Ponts-Jumeaux; at the far end, go under the bridge.
(1) Follow the right-hand bank of the Canal de Brienne. After a long straight stretch, the canal bends to the right and ends at a lock.
(2) In November 2024, the lock is undergoing works, so you’ll need to head back up along the Allée de Brienne. Head straight ahead and cross the Quai Saint-Pierre. There’s a stunning view, with the Bazacle and its waterfall, the dome of La Grave, the Pont Saint-Pierre and, in the background, the Pont Neuf. Turn left towards the Pont Saint-Pierre and head downhill before the bridge to reach the Promenade Henri-Martin.
Once the work on the lock is complete: cross it and head to the other bank. Go down the steps to reach the banks of the Garonne and the Promenade Henri-Martin.
(3) Walk along the right bank of the Garonne and continue towards the Pont Neuf; pass under the arch towards the Pont Saint-Michel; before the bridge, head back up the promenade and turn right onto the bridge with a pavement on one side.
(4) This Pont du Halage de Tounis leads to the Pont Saint-Michel; take it on the right onto a wide promenade. Around the middle, there’s a lovely view with the Pont Neuf in the background.
At the end of the bridge, turn right as soon as possible towards the Prairie des Filtres and follow the Via Garona towards the Pont Neuf. Just before this bridge, go up the steps on the left.
(5) Take Le Cour Dillon on the right towards the Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques. Use the pedestrian crossings to cross Rue de la République, and head towards Place Olivier. From this square, turn slightly to the right and follow Rue Réclusane as far as the Allées Charles de Fitte. Turn right and, about a hundred metres further on to the right, enter Parc Raymond VI.
Take the path that runs alongside the city’s old ramparts. At the end, climb the steps and enjoy the panoramic view, including the Bazacle waterfall.
(6) Follow the Promenade du Docteur Charles Rose to the left towards the Pont des Catalans, which you should cross to get over the Garonne. On the other side, go down the steps on the right. At the bottom, turn left and pass under the bridge. At the exit, on the left, head up towards the Promenade sur la Digue.
(7) Follow this promenade which runs alongside the Garonne. Before the ring-road bridges, a path leads down to a street below; follow this to pass under the ring-road bridges. From there, a path running parallel to the street leads to a car park on the right. Go past this car park, then head down to the right along the footpath and cycle path that runs under the road and leads back to the car park at the river mouth (S/E).
