The walk starts at the Compans-Cafarelli metro station exit (line B), next to a world-famous fast food chain.
(S) Head west-southwest towards a hotel (also part of a well-known chain). Turn right towards the entrance to Parc de Compans.
(1) Enter the park and follow the path straight ahead to a roundabout-shaped flower bed. Continue straight ahead, past the monument commemorating the victims of slavery, and follow a tree-lined path. You will reach the entrance to the Japanese Garden.
(2) Enter the Japanese Garden and walk around it in either direction (the clockwise direction is marked).
(2) When you leave the Japanese Garden, turn right. Immediately turn right again. At the next intersection, go straight ahead and go around Lake Campans Caffarelli on the left. At the end, turn right again.
Walk along a playground on your left and, at the next intersection, turn left. Continue straight ahead, ignore an exit on the left and turn right to return to the flowerbed you saw earlier. Then turn left to return to the entrance you took at the beginning.
(1) When you leave the park, turn right and use the pedestrian crossing to cross Boulevard Lascrosses. Turn left and, after about 30 metres, turn right onto Boulevard Armand Duportal. Continue straight ahead until you reach the Brienne Canal.
(3) In front of the tobacconist's, take the pedestrian crossing and then go down a small staircase leading to the banks of the canal. At the bottom, turn right. Walk along the canal for about 1.4 km and pass under two road bridges.
(4) Just before a third bridge, at a lock, take a green footbridge over the canal. Turn left and walk about 100 m to reach a pedestrian crossing. Cross Allée de Brienne and follow it to the right for about 100 m.
Take the small path on the left, just before a low wall, which leads to the edge of the Bassin des Filtres. Take the path along the basin, which passes below a building. Take a footbridge that crosses the basin and head towards the exit marked by a huge conifer tree. Cross Rue des Amidonniers to take the path directly opposite and follow it for about 50 metres.
(5) Turn left onto the Coulée verte des Amidonniers. Follow this footpath for about 1.4 km. Stay close to the Garonne river at first, then veer away from it to go around the sports fields on the left. Walk past Saint-Paul church and cross Avenue Paul Beauséjour. You will come to a small square that marks the end of the greenway.
(6) Cross the square on the right and cross Allée du Niger. Turn right onto the Bazacle promenade overlooking the Garonne. Follow the promenade until you reach a staircase at the foot of the Pont des Catalans.
(7) Climb the stairs and take the bridge on the left. At the end of the bridge, just before the first buildings, go down the stairs on the left. Walk along the Garonne on your left and take the Passerelle de la Viguerie. Pass under the Pont Saint-Pierre and you will come to a large semi-circular square facing the Garonne, on the Quai de l'Exil Républicain Espagnol.
(8) Turn right and find the exit marked by a passage between two large metal doors. Then turn left onto Rue Viguerie and follow this street to Rue de la République (Charles Laganne water tower opposite). Cross the street and follow it, turning left in front of the water tower.
(9) Just before reaching the Pont Neuf bridge, turn right after the bus parking area. Walk about 300 metres and then turn left to reach the Prairie des Filtres. Cross the meadow and take the path leading to the Pont Saint-Michel bridge.
Take the bridge on the left to cross the main branch of the Garonne. At the traffic lights, on a small island, go down the steps on the left to reach the Écluse Saint-Michel. Cross the small canal via the footbridge, then turn left to reach the viewpoint at the end of the island.
Turn around and climb the stairs on the left to reach the Pont du Halage de Tounis. Turn right then left to cross the small branch of the Garonne on the Pont Saint-Michel.
(10) At the end of the bridge, cross to the right onto the Allées Paul Feuga at the pedestrian crossing, then cross the tram tracks. Then follow the Allées Paul Feuga to the left, then the Allées Jules-Guesde. Cross the Grande Rue Saint-Michel and continue straight ahead. Pass in front of a war memorial and you will reach the entrance to the Natural History Museum on the right.
(11) Take the museum entrance on the right and go straight ahead to enter the Jardin des Plantes, marked by a dinosaur skull on the left side of the path. Immediately after the entrance, take the path on the right. Walk around the garden in an anti-clockwise direction to reach the north end.
Leave the garden and take the footbridge over Square Boulingrin to reach the Grand Rond. Turn left and then left again at the T-junction. Cross the path and turn left at the fork.
(12) Take the footbridge to reach the Jardin Royal. Walk around the garden in an anti-clockwise direction. Leave the garden and take the footbridge again.
(12) Follow the path on the left until you reach the north exit of the Grand Rond. Turn left and cross Square Boulingrin. Continue straight ahead on Esplanade du 19 août 1944 until you reach the war memorial. Go around the memorial to reach François Verdier metro station (E).
