Departure from the hikers' car park, Rue Joseph Hugues Fabisch.
(S/E) Take the street opposite the car park and head for the Calvary by going up Rue du Bourg, which climbs towards Rochebonne Castle.
(1) The Calvary is the starting point of the loop. Continue along the main street, leaving the château on your left, and follow it until you pass the last house (do not take the road that descends to the right towards the Tacot station). You will find yourself on Chemin des Cadoles, which runs along a low wall on your left, leading away from the village. Then follow the path that zigzags uphill for about 500 metres.
(2) Be careful! First, ignore a path that descends slightly to the right and then another one just after that climbs to the left. Continue straight ahead (leaving the large old tree on your left) towards Bonave or Ville-sur-Jarnioux. After 200 m, stay on the path on the right and ignore the one that climbs straight ahead.
(3) Return to the road and the Chemin du Tacot junction. Take the dirt track and follow it, going around Bonave on the left and looping northwards to arrive at Croix Chervet. The track becomes a tarmac road
(4) Follow Chemin du Tacot, which has now become a road, and cross Rue de la Gare to go opposite, leaving the village hall on your left. Chemin Tacot (tarmac) loops to the right. Follow it until you reach Montée de la Madone, which branches off to the left, and climb up to the Chapelle Saint-Roch, which you can see at the top.
(5) At La Madone, at the crossroads, take the small tarmac road that branches off to the right of the chapel and, 200 metres further on, stay on the road to the left. This road passes to the left of a beautiful building with a wash house below. Continue straight ahead uphill towards Saint-Clair. Cross the village, admire the beautiful buildings and pass to the right of the chapel on the road that climbs towards La Saule d'Oingt.
(6) On the D116, 300 metres after leaving the village, turn left onto the small road that climbs slightly and continue for 500 metres to reach a path that continues south (theGR® de Pays Tour du Beaujolais des Pierres Dorées). Follow it for about 800 metres until you see a path that branches off at a 90° angle to the left and climbs steeply.
(7) Take this path, which quickly curves to the right and then runs along the ridge, often sheltered by old box trees. Take care and look out for a small chapel a few metres to the right. Head towards it.
(8) Enjoy the view, then continue along the path, which descends gently to a tarmac road. This crossroads is a launch site and flying site for model gliders. Continue for about 100 metres to the right.
(9) Leave the road, turn left, pass a chicane of large stones and climb a steep hill on a path that goes straight ahead. Then continue to the right and follow the ridge line. Enjoy the view before returning to the path protected by shrubs, which is nice in strong sun or wind! As you approach the descent, look to your left to see an old Chappe telegraph system that communicated between Lyon and Paris.
(10) Before the village of Theizé, enjoy the view at La Madone, then find the street that descends to the Calvary.
(1) Continue downhill and head to the hikers' car park (S/E).
