The Voie du Tacot starting from Bois-d'Oingt

It is thanks to the Amis de la Voie du Tacot that you will discover this walk. This association organises walks throughout the year, with the largest gathering taking place in early November. Two lines of the Chemins de Fer du Beaujolais, opened between 1901 and 1902, linked Villefranche to Monsols and Villefranche to Tarare. The car replaced the train in 1934. Walk along sections of this track, now converted into a footpath, which runs the entire length from Liergues to Sarcey.

Description of the walk

The hike starts at the entrance to the Bois d'Oingt village hall. A car park is available.

(S/E) Facing the entrance to the hall, go round it to the left and take Rue de la Petite Gare, passing the police station and leaving this street at the first junction. Continue straight on along the Voie du Tacot until you reach the letterboxes at numbers 363 and 365 on this road. Turn left and, shortly afterwards, climb the stairs on the right.

(1) At the crossroads, take the path furthest to the right and stay on it towards Layet d’en bas.

(2) At the junction with the Route de Carvine, take this road to the left and, 50 metres further on, turn right onto the Chemin de la Chaponnière. At the next junction, continue straight ahead and, at the following junction, take the path downhill.

(3) Turn right and continue along the path, which becomes a track, until you reach the junction with the D120. Continue straight ahead and, at the Vacheron sign, take the path on the left. Continue until you reach a white garage gate directly in front of you and turn right. You are now on theGRP® Tour du Beaujolais des Pierres Dorées. Continue along the Chemin de Combefort, ignoring the path branching off to the right. At the Les Coasses sign, leave this path and take the trail in front of you. 100 to 150 m further on, at a junction, continue straight ahead.

(4) Continue straight ahead, ignoring the path branching off to the right. You are now on the Chemin de la Forêt (a sign points to Laforest). The path turns into a track leading to a small tarmac road, which you quickly leave to continue along a track that takes you back onto the tarmac road. Follow this road until you reach the D385.

(5) Cross the road. Caution! Heavy traffic. Cross the railway line and continue along the Route du Petit Lac, which runs above the Azergues.

(6) Take the Chemin de la Contardière on the left, ignore a road on the left and continue straight on along the Chemin du Guérin.

(7) At the signpost for “La Contardière” (hard to see on the right-hand side of the path), continue shortly afterwards into the forest to discover a few marked and described trees. You are now back on theGRP® Tour du Beaujolais des Pierres Dorées.

(8) At the signpost for "La Pêcherie", go straight on, leaving theGRP® which branches off to the left. At the signpost for "Les Granges", located near a car park, follow the sign for Légny.

(9) Cross over the Azergues and head for the roundabout on the D385. Keep to the right, pass a restaurant and continue to the next roundabout. Cross at the pedestrian crossing. Take care when crossing.

(10) You are back on the Voie du Tacot, which climbs parallel to the road before making a wide bend to the left, characteristic of a railway line.

(11) At the 270m mark, take the path that runs parallel above the Nizy stream, cross a road and continue along the path.

(12) At the signpost for “Chanrion”, continue straight on to join the D39 (watch out for traffic!), which you will follow to the left to reach, via Rue de la Petite Gare on the left, the village hall and the car park (S/E).

Hello,
Great hike, well-marked route – note that the gate is currently brown, not white. Will it be a different colour soon? So be careful when the description mentions houses and painted gates.
That said, with good signposting, it's easy to find your way around. The weather was beautiful during this hike, with lovely views.

The description is easy to follow, and the walk is generally pleasant, but we were surprised to find that a significant portion of it is on tarmac roads – admittedly quiet ones, but still less pleasant than a dirt track. In fact, a good part of the ‘Vois du tacot’ is not a dirt track but tarmac, which we hadn’t realised when reading the description.
The section through the forest at point 7 is magnificent.
Otherwise, here are two bits of information that might be useful:
at point 2, the path goes downhill to the right; we almost took a small road (also going downhill) on the left before realising our mistake thanks to the GPS.
At point 3, the white garage door that should be in front of you before turning right has been repainted dark brown.

A day of sunshine and occasional showers. Stunning views, colourful vineyards with a few ripe bunches left behind by the harvest. No doubt so we could sample them and stock up a fan of grape-cured sausage!
Thank you, friends of the Voie du Tacot!
PS Those restoring dry-stone walls needn’t worry about unemployment!!
