Les Framboisiers de la Framboisière

No raspberries in sight: for now, but where on earth have the raspberry bushes of La Framboisière gone?
The village’s name is more likely to be linked to the Bois Francs – the free-hold woods.
The Raspberry Festival takes place every two years. It brings together local artisans who showcase their products related to the preparation of dishes made with red berries.
A short walk to explore the fields and woodland edge between the Senonches State Forest and the village. A stroll past the majestic oaks of La Framboisière and Le Grand Village. Reminders of an old railway line.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park in front of La Framboisière town hall.

Yellow markings

(S/E) Walk past the church entrance. There are raspberry bushes at the chancel. At the end of the path, turn left and, at the entrance to the cemetery, take the road on the right.

(1) As you approach Le Grand Village, continue straight on along the Chemin de la Forêt. You’ll see a fine oak tree in the hedge on the right before reaching the edge of the woodland.

(2) Continue to the right until you reach the junction with the GRP® Vallées de la Blaise et de l’Avre trail. Head towards Verneuil on the right. 50 metres from the junction, on the right, you’ll see two trees that merge at a height of about five metres to form a single tree.

(3) Return to the junction and follow the GRP® to the right towards La Bénette. Continue to the picturesque bridge over the old La Loupe–Verneuil railway line.

(4) From the bridge, return to the fork in the path at the edge of the woodland.

No signposting

(2) Turn right and follow the edge of the woodland. Cross a road and then the old railway line. Continue along the edge of the woodland to the Chêne de la Framboisière and rejoin the yellow markings.

Yellow signposting.

(5) Take the path on the left to leave the forest. Cross the fields and reach the D25 road. Follow it to the left to return to the car park at La Framboisière town hall (S/E).

Worth a visit

Château de la Framboisière next to the church (S/E), where Marin-Gabriel-Louis-François Périer, a deputy for the Third Estate at the Estates General of 1789, was born in 1752. A benefactor of Senonches, where he founded a hospice and a school for girls. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marin-Gabriel-Louis-Fran%C3%A7ois_P%C3%A9rier

The château subsequently served as the hunting lodge of the Marquis de Chambray (General Councillor for the canton of Damville in the Eure). This château was situated amongst several other châteaux: Tardais, the Château des Vaux and the Château de la Ferté-Vidame – and Château du Gland, where, until the early 20th century, prestigious hunts on horseback took place, featuring superb hunting parties led by the Marquis’s famous pack of white hounds. It was at La Framboisière that the celebrations marking the1,000th stag caught were held. A reminder of these festivities can be found at the Château des Vaux, in the form of a statue of this stag in the meadow in front of the main courtyard. More recently, the château—which has become the property of a relative of Valéry Giscard d’Estaing—has been visited on several occasions by the former President of the Republic, who sometimes arrived by helicopter.
