The Tour of the Baronnies Provençales

This circular route, starting from the charming medieval town of Serres, accessible by train, gives pride of place to the ridges and peaks of the massif. Between the Hautes-Alpes and Drôme, each day offers spectacular views and aerial trails, without any major technical difficulties. Small Provençal villages, perfectly integrated into the landscape, punctuate this particularly wild and uncrowded route. Between lively and diverse forests, golden pastures, lavender fields and prominent limestone rocks, this part of the Baronnies, with its strong rural and mountainous character, offers exceptional panoramic views of the Southern Alps and the nearby Provençal peaks every day.

Notes

Hiking in the Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park is best done in April-May-June and September-October. In summer, it can be very hot in the Baronnies Provençales, and in winter, some paths may be impassable or snow-covered.
Set off each day with a good supply of water, as most fountains are not monitored and some may have a very low flow rate in all seasons.
Accommodation options are described in the day-by-day itinerary. As the Baronnies are not a major tourist destination, there are few options: book well in advance.

Important note: at the time of writing, there are only two options for restocking supplies: at the start, in Serres (mini-market and supermarket), and in Orpierre on day 5 (mini-market). It may be best to plan picnics in advance with your accommodation providers.
