Lodge de Praboyer - Rosans

This stage is different from the previous one, less airy, but the second half has some wonderful surprises in store. From the Col des Pins, the view opens up onto the wide agricultural valley of Rosans, which is magnificent. Above all, the final stretch is particularly fabulous. Directly above Rosans, the trail literally plunges down towards the old village, a marvel of the Baronnies.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: The Tour of the Baronnies Provençales

Description of the walk

(S) From the Praboyer lodge, descend towards Montmorin following the trail, via the GR® 91, and arrive at the entrance to the village.

(1) Pass through the village centre and the church, off the GR®. Join the GR® again at the village exit and continue along the D6 for a few metres.

(2) Leave the road at the first crossroads and follow the GR® trail to the left. Cross the Oule river and begin an easy climb to reach the hamlet of Chatusse Haute.

(3) Continue along a track, which offers beautiful views of the Oule valley and Montmorin. Continue climbing through the Oule National Forest. You will reach a crossroads at the start of a path.

(4) Leave the track and keep left on the GR®. After a few hairpin bends, head west to reach the Col de Plume.

(5) Turn almost 180° to the left to reach the Col des Pins.

(6) Begin the descent here, which is steep atfirst. You will soon reach a trail junction; keep right on the GR® and cross the Ruisseau de Combe Rousse stream. You will reach the Aire du Col in a large clearing.

(7) Continue straight ahead, still on the GR® trail, in a wild environment. Pass the Essaillon building. Here, begin an easy climb and cross the Ruisseau de Combe Froide stream. Then finish the climb to the Col de l'Archimbaou.

(8) Continue downhill to reach a hairpin bend.

(9) Leave the GR® 91 here and take the Beaumelle forest road opposite. After about 50 metres, at the fork in the tracks, stay on the right-hand track and, after a final short climb, you will reach the Serre du Suquet.

(10) Leave the track and descend to the left, along a small ridge path, heading south towards Rosans, today's destination. (E)

Head towards the centre of Rosans and stroll through the narrow streets of this fantastic village.

Notes

Hiking in the Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park is best undertaken in April-May-June and September-October. In summer, it can be very hot in the Baronnies Provençales, and in winter, some paths may be impassable or snow-covered.

Set off each day with a good supply of water, as most fountains are not monitored and some may have a very low flow rate in all seasons.

(10) Rosans: two campsites and two guesthouses: Atypique Détour and the Château de Rosans.

Worth a visit

(6) Col des Pins: the view opens onto the wide valley that is home to Rosans.
Between (10) and (E): the descent along the ridge with the old village of Rosans in sight is a real treat.
