Description of the walk

To reach the starting point from Aspremont, take the D49 next to the church, heading towards Pont de Chabestan. Drive up to the Fork in the road and park on the right, in the grass under the trees. From Pont de Chabestan, head towards Aspremont via the D49 and park on the right, at the top of the Fork in the road.

(S/E) Set off straight ahead, taking care when crossing the road. Walk for about a hundred metres and take track B168 on the right, heading up to the junction with track B171.
Note: at this point, you can go straight on to reach the next point directly.

(1) Turn right and follow the B171 to the end, then take the path on the left. The climb is a bit difficult for young children. Follow this path until you rejoin the starting track at the B3 cistern.

(2) Turn right and continue for about 200 metres, then take the track on the right and follow it down to the junction near the hamlet of La Baumette.

(3) Take the track on the left, ignoring the tracks to the right and left, to reach a junction marked with an orange VTT10 sign, just before the D994a road.

(4) Turn left and follow this orange-marked track to reach a Y-junction at the top.

(5) Turn left and then follow the red MTB markers along the next track on the right. You will reach the B2 water tank.

(6) In front of the tank, turn right, then turn left onto track B280 and descend to the junction.

(7) Turn right onto track B172.
Note: to shorten the ride, you can turn left to rejoin the starting track at the B3 tank, which you passed on the way up.

(8) Head downhill, straight to the left, through the woods (no major difficulty), to join track B173.

(9) Take the track on the left and follow it to the D49 car park (S/E).

Notes

There is a clay pigeon shooting range at a place called Le lac de Signe; there is no danger from the shooting, but it is very noisy (tested at the weekend).
A lake with swimming and catering facilities is nearby.
The springs indicated on the map at the car park are in fact pools of non-potable water.
The route takes 2 hours 30 minutes at a leisurely pace.

If you like woodland, this is a lovely walk. If you’re looking for views, choose a different route (e.g. no. 418085).
Be careful at the start: if you follow the B171 track all the way, you’ll end up going straight from point 1 to 2 without completing a circular route. We also got lost between points 8 and 9; I’m not sure why.

An easy route that can be easily adapted thanks to the extensive network of forest paths.
A shaded route with gentle slopes.
