Description of the walk

Start from the car park below the D5, near the Tourist Office.

(S/E) Make your way to the far end of the car park, take the flight of steps and cross the D5. Then turn right and then left onto Impasse Jean Desserre. At the end, follow the path on the right which climbs through the forest and leads to a fork.

(1) Turn left onto the path which runs almost level. Pass several pieces of fitness equipment and arrive at a fork.

(2) Take a sharp right onto the fitness trail and reach a multi-way junction.

(3) Continue straight ahead on the less marked path, which runs almost level. It then climbs until it reaches the edge of the crater on the left. Continue along the ridge and reach a three-way junction, a few metres before beginning a steep descent. Turn left and descend to a multi-way junction.

(4) Turn left for a quick round trip to the bottom of the crater.

(4) On your return, take the wide path on the left which climbs steeply up the slope. At the top of the climb, ignore a path branching off to the left and continue to the summit of Tartaret.

(5) After taking in the view, continue down the path and reach the junction you passed earlier.

(3) Head straight ahead along the fitness trail and rejoin the route you took earlier.

(1) Continue straight ahead and, following the route back in the opposite direction to the outward journey, return to the car park in front of the Tourist Office (S/E).
