In Beaune-le-Froid, park in the small car park by the cemetery, south of the village.
Directional markers
(S/E) Go up the access road to the cemetery and take the road on the left. It quickly turns into a path. At the Creux du Mortier signpost crossroads, turn left towards Les Luges.
At the Les Luges signpost, turn right towards La Garde. Join theGR®®30at the next intersection, at the La Garde signpost.
Red and whiteGR®® markings
(1) Turn left towards Les Bernades, follow the path for about 20 metres, then leave it and take a trail on the right. There are some beautiful views of Lac Chambon and the Dent du Marais. You will arrive at the D5 at the Les Bernades signpost.
Directional markers
(2) Leave theGR®®. Carefully follow the road to the right for about 150 metres towards Le Marais, then take the path to the picnic area. Beautiful view of the Château de Murol.

(3) At the end, take the path branching off to the right, with a sign indicating "Dent du Marais, Pied du rocher, Lac Chambon". Beautiful undergrowth on scree.
(4) Follow the path as it curves to the left, ignoring the vague path that goes straight ahead. Pass at the foot of the Dent du Marais. Pass the directional signs, continuing straight ahead towards Roche Blanche. You will come to a street; follow it to the right and you will immediately reach a crossroads with the Chemin des Combes, at the Roche Blanche signpost.
Take the path with a few steps that descends to the left towards Lac Chambon. After another flight of steps, you will arrive at the D996 at the Lac Chambon signpost, facing the lake.
(5) Cross over and follow the path opposite to go around the lake, keeping it on your right. Cross the Couze Chambon, which leaves the lake here, then take the beach and join an intersection to find theGR®®30.

(6) Follow the wide path on the right.
(7) Leave the path and take the beautiful boardwalk through the marshy area of the Couze Chambon. Join a wide path and follow it to the right. Pass a picnic area and arrive at the D996.
(8) Cross over and follow the small road opposite, which is a no-entry road, following the sign for Vestiges de Varennes. Ignore Chemin sous les Bleds on your left and, just after the fork, keep right on Chemin du Château, still heading towards Vestiges de Varennes. You will arrive at this feudal mound with the remains of a castle. After visiting, if you wish, continue along the path. At the La Mouta signpost, turn left and you will soon reach the next intersection.

(9) See the 2024 works variant in the Practical Information section. Leave theGR®® and continue straight ahead towards Coujat. After about a kilometre of steady climbing, you will reach the Coujat signpost crossroads.
(10) Turn right towards Croix de Barbat.
(11) At the junction of the small Croix de Barbat and the signpost of the same name, turn left towards Près de la Croix. You will soon reach this signpost and continue straight ahead towards Le Pont. At the Le Pont signpost junction, follow the road to the right towards Creux du Mortier. After about 100 metres, you will reach the cemetery entrance, which will take you back to the car park (S/E).
