Varennes and Lake Chambon

This walk, starting from Varennes, will take you around Lake Chambon along part of the GR®30 before returning to Varennes and the ruins of its castle, all on good paths without any major difficulties.

Description of the walk

Start from the car park at Pré Bas.

(S/E) Leave the car park, turn right towards the lake, then take the GR® 30 on the right. Continue along the lake until you’ve passed the holiday village.

(1) After the holiday village, cross the road, head straight ahead, then cross the street and carry on straight.

(2) At the junction, turn left onto Chemin de la Gougère and keep to the right.

(3) Take the path on the right. At the end, turn right onto Chemin du Château and walk up to the ruins.

(4) Turn round, then take Rue du Four on the right. At the end of the street, turn right and then immediately left onto Rue des Fontaines.

(5) Cross Route du Chambon, head straight ahead, then first turn right then left to return to the starting point (S/E).
