Description of the walk

By car, coming from Masevaux, in Dolleren, turn left onto the small bridge crossing the Doller, towards the Schlumpf ski lift. There is a grassy car park on the left about 600 m further on.

(S/E) From the car park, walk back down about a hundred metres and take the path leading uphill to the right (marked ‘Green Ring’). When you reach the tarmac road, turn left uphill and follow the curve of the bend to the right.

(1) A few dozen metres after the bend, turn left onto the path and follow it for about 100 m (still following the ‘Green Ring’ markings). Turn right onto the path leading towards a house, walk past it on the left and head up the meadow. When you see the resort’s snow groomer shed, turn right and you’ll find yourself back at the car park by the ski lift departure point. Walk down the road for about fifty metres and turn left onto the path (Green Ring). Pass a turn-off on the left and you’ll reach a junction shortly afterwards.

(2) Turn right and cross the clearing, cross the small stream (officially, the Green Ring route indicates you should follow the path through the undergrowth, but before reaching the stream, trees and thickets were blocking the way) and head back up towards the forest for about 150 m.

(3) A little further into the forest, leave the Green Ring route and take the path on the left (Red Ring). Head towards the summit of the Schlumpf, Fennematt and Lochberg. This path climbs a fairly steep slope in a zigzag pattern and occasionally crosses forest tracks. Just before the summit, pass under the ski lift to reach the Schlumpf Cross and take in the superb view.

(4) Continue towards the fence, go over it and follow the path leading down to the right (Red Ring and Blue Triangle). Just before reaching Fennematt, you can see the source of the Doller on the left. See Practical Information.

(5) Continue along the path and turn right onto the small path leading uphill towards Dolleren, Auberge du Graber and Sewen (Red Ring, Blue RectangleGR®531). On leaving the forest, pass beneath the Graber Breitenstein shelter (on the left). Enter the forest for about 100 m.

(6) At the junction, let theGR®531head off to the left and follow the signs for Auberge du Graber and Schlumpf, Dolleren (Red Ring markings). Follow the fairly steep downhill path carefully; it crosses a timber haulage track from time to time.
Please note: follow the revised route (on older IGN maps, the Red Ring does not pass through the same spot).

(7) At the next crossroads, ignore the path marked with a Red Triangle towards the Ferme du Graber and continue along the path (Red Ring) for a few hundred metres.

(8) When you reach the junction with the Green Ring-marked path, carry on straight ahead along this path, which becomes a tarmac road. Follow it until you return to the car park (S/E).

A lovely walk. The route description is accurate and the paths are clear (no more trees blocking the way).
A little bonus today: on the zigzagging climb at point 3, we enjoyed some lovely, fragrant raspberries (a dessert before our snack at the top).

A fine route overall, with a high gradient in the first part that warms up the legs straight away, right up to its highest point, perfect for a panoramic break! Superb 180° views. In a family of four adults with good pace achieved in 2h50 with 11.50 km and 565 metres of D+ (Strava) - Thanks Bertrand

Walk completed on 11/03/22 -
A lovely route, especially at the end of winter. We only came across two people in total.
However, the paths on the ascent between points 3 and 4, and on the descent after point 6, are very often blocked by trees that fell this winter. It takes a fair bit of agility and/or flexibility to get past them. We even had to leave the route and cut a straight line between the obstacles on the way down. Quite dangerous if you lose your balance on an unpruned tree trunk…
