The Rocher de l'Aigle and return via the Canal Salva

A short hike starting from Guillestre with the added bonus of climbing to a small summit for the view, before returning via a wide forest path, then a path that joins the hamlet of Les Terrasses before taking the Canal Salva path that brings us back to the starting point.

Description of the walk

Park on Route de la Viste north of Guillestre (3 or 4 parking spaces).

(S/E) Go up the steep path on the right that crosses the canal and leave the path on the far left, which will be the return route.

(1) Follow the path on the left, which climbs steadily at first and then steeply at the end. You will come out onto the plateau.

(2) Before the forest path that comes in from the right, climb left towards the Rocher de l'Aigle (Eagle Rock) via a small path (50 m elevation gain).

(3) Enjoy the view, then descend to the previous fork.

(2) Take the forest track on the left towards the east. It heads north-east, crosses the Ravin de Roche Rousse and reaches a fork.

(4) Just before the fork, take the path on the left, which is level at first but then descends quite steeply towards the north and then west to join the Torrent de Malafosse.

(5) Continue and, keeping to the right, arrive at the Canal de Salva.

(6) Continue along the stream and after about 300 metres, you will reach Les Terrasses.

(7) Below Les Terrasses, follow the Canal Salva path, which will take you back above the starting point.

(1) Descend to the right, following the same route as on the way up, and return to the car park (S/E).

Firstly, as Route de la Viste is reserved for service vehicles, it is best to park in the bend by the bins or at the edge of the last houses.
At (4), you should turn left not "just before the fork" but at the fork itself. In any case, the signage is very good.
Apart from that, everything is great, especially the view at Rocher de l'Aigle.
