Access: From Clermont-Ferrand, take the D941 towards Orcines, then the D942 towards the Puy de Dôme, then on to the Col de Ceyssat. Car park in front of the two restaurants.
Signposting: Yellow: Puy de Dôme (via the Chemin des Chèvres).
(S/E) From the car park, take the path that climbs above the two restaurants; leave the Chemin des Muletiers on your right and follow the stony path, which then becomes a dirt track, through a beech forest. Continue along the natural path until you reach a clearing.
(1) At the clearing, carry on straight ahead along the natural path. At the junction with theGR®®4, carry on straight ahead.
(2) At the junction with theGR®® 441 (four-way junction), turn right and continue across the Plateau du Traversin to the stone fountain.
(3) At the fountain, turn right onto the Chemin des Chèvres, walk up this steep path, ignore the path on the left and continue to the steps.
(4) Climb the steps to the road and the Panoramique des Dômes rack railway line.
(5) At the road, turn left; just before the station, cross the railway tracks (watch out for the train), and head up towards the platform above the station.
(6) Carry on and turn right towards the Temple of Mercury, then walk around the site.
(7) On your way back towards the station, turn right and head down the Chemin des Muletiers to the road/railway line.
(8) At the road, cross the road and the railway tracks – watch out for trains – then take the path opposite which leads down to the restaurants and the car park (S/E).
