Puy-de-Dôme via the Sentier des Muletiers trail

Warning! Immediate danger – Rockfalls. Due to rockfalls from the cliffs, the Chemin des Muletiers is STRICTLY closed until further notice by municipal decree of the commune of Orcines.

Description of the walk

Park in the Col de Ceyssat car parks or, if there are no spaces available, along the road going downhill (fines will be issued for parking uphill).

(S/E) Follow the path at the top of the car parks starting on the left or take the path along the restaurant (closed in August 2024), both of which will take you to the actual starting point of the hike.

(1) Take the path on the right.

(2) Carefully cross the Puy de Dôme panoramic train track: access via the tarmac road is strictly prohibited to pedestrians. Continue along the path on the other side.

(3) From this point (bend no. 8), the landscape opens up, allowing you to admire the chain of volcanoes. Continue to the summit.

(4) Enjoy the panoramic view and take the uphill path in the opposite direction to return to the Col de Ceyssat (S/E).
