Leave your car in the car park at Place de la Fontaine, near the town hall in Journans.
(S/E) Walk up Rue du Moulin for a few metres and turn right onto Rue de l'Église.
(1) Leave Chemin de la Reyssouze on your right and continue on the left until you reach the church.
(2) At the Sully tree, turn left onto Rue du Tilleul, then continue along Rue du Puits. Follow Rue de Lachat to the left. At the next crossroads, follow the red and whiteGR®59signs to Sénissiat. As you approach the village, at the first houses, turn left at the crossroads to reach the village.
(3) In Sénissiat, at the crossroads marked with a cross, leave theGR® and turn right, then right again at the fork immediately after. Follow a path that is initially tarmac but then becomes dirt. Pass to the left of a telephone transmission antenna and continue uphill to an isolated cross on the pass, the Croix du Mont.
(4) Behind this cross is a discreet passageway leading to a cow field, where the path continues to the summit of Mont Rignat. If the path disappears due to vegetation, follow your instincts – you can't get lost. The summit is clearly visible.
Once you have enjoyed the fresh air and admired the view, head back down the same way you came up. The path is not visible. Head towards the edge of a wooded area below
(5) Find the path that becomes visible again and heads to the right. Return to the paved road.
(6) Turn left to descend to Château Pinel, a beautiful 13th-century fortified house. Continue downhill to the first crossroads with a path on the right before the village of Rignat
(7) Turn right and climb back up a few hundred metres.
(8) Be careful and continue straight ahead as the path that branches off to the right, indicated on the map, seems to have disappeared. Reach the village of Journans at the church, flanked by its beautiful Sully lime tree (read its history engraved on a plaque fixed to its trunk).
(2) Return to the starting point via the same route you took on the way there.
(1) When you reach the car park, don't hesitate to turn left and walk 150 metres to take the Chemin de la Reyssouze and see the beautiful springs of the department's largest river, which have recently been restored to their Roman appearance. Retrace your steps.
(1) Turn left twice to return to the car park (S/E).
