Description of the walk

Parking at the old Criel school, 200 Chemin du Marais Fleury.

(S/E) With your back to the school, turn right towards the south and follow Route du Marais Fleury, passing an old bread oven; ignore Route Alexandre Raphaël on the right, continue for about 150 m and reach the junction with Chemin de Bourretière.

(1) Turn right. Very soon the path heads south and, after about 500 m, reaches a junction at a right-hand bend.

(2) This right-hand bend is followed by another to the left, and the path heads south again, descending slightly until a sharp right-hand bend.

(3) Turn left onto a well-marked forest track heading south-east for about 150 m. Then head up to the left towards the north, on a track that stays on the Criel ridges, above Vourey.
As you pass under the high-voltage power lines, the unobstructed view over the Isère plain offers a glimpse of the Chartreuse and Vercors mountain ranges.
Leave a path on your left and continue through the woodland until you come down onto the (tarmac) road to Chougnes. Follow it to the left for about a hundred metres to reach the junction of Route de Chougnes and Chemin du Viéron.

(4) There is an unobstructed view of the Isère plain. Cross the junction and continue straight on until the next crossroads. Take the farm track which veers left and passes between pastures, orchards and walnut groves, evidence of the farming activity in Criel de Renage. The track heads north and joins a fork at a place called Les Bruyères.

(5) Continue left along the Chemin des Combes until you reach a block of houses. At the junction with the Chemin du Marais Fleury, turn left to head back towards the old school (S/E).
