The Eight of Lake Chaumençon

A superb walk between the lake’s banks and the hills above via the road, with plenty of shaded spots to take a break or go for a swim. The route forms a circular loop: you can therefore do both sections or just one, as you prefer.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the leisure centre car park near the L’Évasion de Chaumençon campsite , walk down between two rows of wooden barriers towards the pedalos to join the lakeside path.

(1) Look out for the return path on the right and continue straight on. Cross the footbridge over the Ribaudelle Stream and you’ll reach a road.

(2) Take the tarmac road that climbs to the right, then up to the left to the hamlet of Les Clous.

(3) Turn left onto the road that descends and becomes a track. At the very bottom, turn right and cross the Ruisseau de Porcmignon.

(4) Immediately afterwards, turn left and follow the track running alongside the stream to the lake, then take the path running along the left side of the lake.

(5) At the boat launch, take the road that climbs up to the left and joins the junction you passed on the way there.

(2) Turn right and continue to the next path on the left at the original junction.

(1) Turn onto this track, which joins a road leading towards two ponds.

(6) Turn right, pass between the two ponds and emerge onto Route de Chaumecon (D235).

(7) Follow it to the right (watch out for cars) and head to the leisure centre car park (S/E).
