Description of the walk

The route starts at Place de Saint-Martin-du-Puy. Parking is available in front of the town hall.

(S/E) Head south (the road opposite the church and town hall). Turn right onto the path passing in front of the bakery.

(1) Continue straight on along the small uphill path. At the reservoir, turn left to cross the D235 with care and continue straight ahead into the woods until you reach the first crossroads.

(2) Turn right onto the forest track, cross the D235 with care and, after a steep climb, reach the fork at the Pierre de la Vierge.

(3) Turn left, carefully cross the D235 again and continue straight ahead to a fork.

(4) Turn right onto the path leading down to the Ruisseau de Fouanche. At the next junction, take a path leading uphill to the left.

(5) At the junction with the forest road, go straight on, cross the Ruisseau de l'Étang de Pierre and come out onto the D235.

(6) Cross the road once, then follow it to the Col de la Guite Longue.

(7) After 250 metres, leave the D-road and continue right into the woods to the south-west until you reach the D150.

(8) Follow the road to the right to follow the ridge line. At the bend, ignore the path opposite and continue along the road until you reach the start of a path opposite at the left-hand bend (elevation 577).

(9) Leave the main road and take the forest track opposite for about 50 metres, then turn right towards the north-west.

(10) Before reaching the pond (not yet visible), take the bend to the right, staying on the same path, then keep left.

(11) Leave the forest track and take the path opposite, veering slightly to the right. Continue north-west

(12) At the end of the track, turn left to enter the hamlet of Jourland. On leaving, follow the road to the right which leads to the D944, near the Étang de Rincieux.

(13) Taking a left-right turn, carefully cross the main road and take the road leading up to the hamlet of Seneux.

(14) Continue to the right and, at the next junction, turn right towards the D944.

(15) Cross it carefully, pass by a wash house and a fountain, follow Rue des Fontaines and turn right into Rue de l’Église to reach Place de Saint-Martin-du-Puy, near the town hall (S/E).

This circular route will take you through varied landscapes where you will encounter water as you cross the Chalaux, stop near the Étang des Vernois, pass along the Lac de Chaumeçon and numerous small streams, which you will sometimes have to jump over! You will also pass through several hamlets. The route alternates between woodland and more open passages. The hike can be done in either direction. Apart from the first 200 metres on the D6, the hike only takes you along small, generally quiet local roads and paths.

This loop hike takes you from the forested areas west of Brassy to the more open countryside around Gâcogne and Vauclaix, with open views towards Lormes and Corbigeois. No refreshments en route, unless you make a diversion via the market town of Gâcogne - check by telephone beforehand that the inn is open. Can also be done from Lavault or Vauclaix. The climbs are shadier in the recommended direction.

Between Saint-Germain and Chastellux, a walk in the northern Morvan, through pastures, meadows, woods and hamlets. This is initially a rural route that joins the road after passing the dam. The path then becomes more wooded until it passes under the bridge of the main road. The final few kilometres follow a small road. As well as the Crescent reservoir, you can admire the beautiful Château de Chastellux. There is also a short passage under a small aqueduct, which is actually an underground river that required a small structure due to the terrain.
