Park in the central car park in Brézins.
(S/E) From the car park, take the main road (Route de la Côte) heading north. Walk away from the traffic lights. Take the first street on the left, Rue du Stade, running alongside the disused railway line. The path is marked in yellow as far as Bois Jean Brun, at the foot of the village of Bressieux.
(1) At the end of this street, turn right and then immediately left onto a small tarmac road, Rue du Pélerat. At the end of this street, turn left and cross the D519 (signposted “Marguetière” – towards Château de Luzy, 2.3 km). Carry on straight ahead. You’ll cross a small stream (the Rival) and continue straight on.
(2) When you reach a ford, you can either continue on the road and get your shoes full of water, or take the hidden footbridge overhanging the stream on the right. At the next junction, turn right and then leave a small lane on your right. At a Fork in the road, take the left-hand path to enter the hamlet of Le Temple
(3) Continue straight on. At a T-junction, turn left and walk along the outer wall of Luzy Castle.
(4) Take the dirt track branching off to your left (looking to the right, you will see the château). Cross the D130. Very soon, this track turns left. Leave it and go straight on, taking a small path that climbs a slight rise to the right. The path seems unclear at first but then becomes more defined. You walk alongside a ditch on your left. You come out onto a wide path; turn left and then very quickly right.
(5) You arrive in the village of Bressieux. On your left is a fountain. At the museum, before the church, follow the path that climbs up to the left and leads to the cemetery and the inn. Pass both by turning left and continuing uphill.
(6) You’ll reach Bressieux Castle. This time, take a moment to enjoy the place. You can wander around freely and climb the keep (keeping an eye on the children if there are any).
To set off again, head due east (when facing the castle entrance, head down into the woods on the left). You’ll reach a sort of ridge, in a meadow, and head downhill. You’ll soon come to a crossroads with a wooden cross. This is the Trouva Cross (many ancient objects were found here).
(7) Continue straight ahead and very soon, at the Fork in the road, turn right, following the yellow markings. At the next Fork in the road, turn right again and ignore a path branching off to the right. You’ll reach a junction (sign for “La Rivoire – 495m”) and carry straight on. A little further on, carry straight on even though the path veers to the right. Follow the yellow markings.
You’ll come to a small road; turn left here (there’s a Yellow Cross, but carry on regardless – we’re no longer following the markings). Ignore a path branching off to the left. When you reach a T-junction, turn right. Keep an eye out: after a while, you’ll spot a path leading down to the left.
(8) Take this path (you’ve gained 200m). You’ll come out onto a small road; follow it to the left. Continue along this small road for a good while. You’ll pass a cluster of houses and the road turns right. You’ll pass an intersection.
(9) A little further on, a path branches off discreetly to the right, between two fields. Don’t hesitate – take it, especially as it’s very pleasant. It leads you back to the D130.
(10) You are on the outskirts of the hamlet of Bessey. Cross the road (take care) and continue straight ahead. Carry on along this small road, ignoring everything coming from the right, and you will enter Brézins.
(11) At the traffic lights, carry straight on to return to your vehicle (S/E).
