Parking at the church.
(S/E) Leave the church of Bressieux behind you and head down Rue de la Porte Saint-Michel towards the south-west.
Leave Rue de la Porte Neuve on your left and head down Rue de la Porte de Serre. Pass the Terrailler fountain and continue straight ahead. Very quickly, turn right down Rue du Moulin Pourchet. This will take you to Route de Saint-Pierre de Bressieux (stop sign).
(1) Make a zigzag, right-left turn to take a discreet path almost opposite. You will cross a stream. Your path leads to another path; take the one on the left. Walk along the stream on your left. Cross the stream again. You will come out onto the D130b, which you take on the right (be careful).
(2) Take the first street on the right (signs for Garembourg and Moulin Ruel). Follow it until you reach the hamlet (two or three houses), where it turns right. Continue straight ahead, slightly to the left. You will soon come to another group of houses. Turn left (Chemin de Moulin Ruel).
(3) Very soon, take a gravel path, still on the left. It quickly climbs uphill. Follow it for a good while. You will arrive at a few farm buildings in poor condition. Shortly afterwards, your path turns into a small tarmac road that winds slightly downhill.
(4) You come out onto a small road (signposted "Le Sorbier"). Turn left to cross the large hamlet. Pass the first lane on the right and take the second (signposted Rossière-551m, towards "La Cabane"). For a while, you can follow the yellow markings. Follow the crest of the hill. At a fork, take the right-hand branch. Do the same further on.
(5) At the highest point of the walk, you will have a panoramic view stretching from Mont Blanc to the peaks of Chartreuse via the Monts de l'Ain. Continue straight ahead.
(6) You will arrive at a place called "la Cabane" (and there is one on the right, hidden behind a road sign). Turn left towards Combe de l'Ours, then quickly turn right onto a path that descends steeply. Follow it to the bottom of the valley. At this point, turn right (ignoring the path that climbs back up into the forest 10 metres further on).
(7) Immediately afterwards, you will see the sign for "Combe de l'Ours". Turn left towards "Le Billoux", with the walnut trees on your right. You will cross the D130b again, which you follow on the left (again, taking care with the traffic) to take the first path that climbs steeply to the right.
(8) You will arrive at a place called Le Billoux (sign). Turn left towards Bois Favet. You will be walking along a ridge path which, after climbing, will descend steadily. After a while, you will come to a fork with a vineyard on your right. Take the right-hand branch.
(9) Your path ends at a T-junction with a wall in front of you. Turn right. Walk downhill until you come to a priority sign. Take the discreet dirt track that descends in front of you. It climbs back up to a small road. Turn right. After a left-hand bend, you will come to a complex crossroads.
(10) A sign indicates that you are in Bois Favet. Take the path that climbs to the left (Chemin des Vignes), towards "La Rivoire". The path turns into a paved lane between houses (we are in the suburbs of Saint-Pierre-de-Bressieux). When you reach a fork, turn right. Pass the first street on your right, then a horse riding centre, and then a second street (Chemin des Gonettes).
(11) Immediately after, take a dirt track on the right. When it comes to a tree-lined embankment, turn left.
(12) This will take you to a sign for "La Rivoire". Continue straight ahead. You will come to another sign for "Croix Trouva". Turn opposite, passing a memorial to Mandrin, a local celebrity. Climb slightly to reach the imposing Château de Bressieux.
(13) Take the time to enter the courtyard (free access) and climb to the top of the keep. In my opinion, the view is well worth the effort.
Once you have finished your visit, go back down the path that brought you here, turn left and walk down to the village of Bressieux. Turn right just after the small cemetery to find the church (S/E).
An interesting route in the northern foothills of the Chambarans, a beautiful sunny day with no difficulties whatsoever. Nothing to say about this hike except to follow Viso's description carefully. Thanks to the tracker. No one else on this route.
