Description of the walk

Between Contréglise and Saponcourt, along the D7, take a small path on the left in the woods and walk for about 15 metres to reach a car park.

(S/E) From the car park, turn right onto a forest track. Further on, the track veers to the right before becoming perfectly straight. Continue until you reach the Camp Pothier memorial in the Bois de Mont aux Pies.

(1) At the fork, turn left onto another path, then, immediately afterwards, at the crossroads, turn left. Carry on straight ahead.

(2) Ignore a path branching off to the right and pass a picnic area. You will then begin the descent towards Venisey. Continue along this track until you emerge from the woods. Ignore a path on the right and carry on to the next crossroads.

(3) Turn left, then take the second path on the left which crosses a field to join the botanical trail.

(4) At the end of the field, turn right to reach a crossroads.

(5) Turn left, then immediately right. A little further on, turn left again, then right. Then carry on straight ahead to reach the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Between (2) and (3), once you’ve emerged from the woods, you’ll find a sign by the roadside explaining the viewpoints over the Saône valley.

Must-sees: The ‘President’s Oak’ is the oldest oak in the area (over 200 years old). The forest tunnel, which is lovely to walk through in all seasons to enjoy the changing colours. A botanical trail where you can admire the flora, its colours and let yourself be enchanted by its scent.

We were lucky enough to taste some wild raspberries!
