Description of the walk

Park on Place du Général de Gaulle, opposite the church.

(S/E) Head towards the suburb (towards Demangevelle) by taking the bridge over the Côney and the Canal de l’Est. Take care.

(1) At the junction, turn right (towards Contréglise) then left (Rue du Faubourg, to the right of the pedestrian crossing).
Take thefirst road on your left and continue along this small road. On your right, you’ll catch sight of a statue of the Virgin Mary watching over the village of Corre.

(2) At the junction, carry on straight ahead along the small dirt track that crosses the fields and veer left towards Demangevelle.
Carry on to the right towards the village.

(3) On the hillock to your right, you can see an old tower. Follow the main road (D417). Take care.

(4) Take the road on the left, by the fountain, towards Passavant-la-Rochère, and carry on until you reach the canal (you’ll see a lock on your right).

(5) On your left, before the canal, start walking along the Échappée Bleue (an old towpath) and follow the Canal de l’Est as far as Corre.

(6) Cross to the other side via the wooden bridge and continue to your left, still following the canal. When you reach the church, go under the bridge to reach the harbour master’s office and the small harbour on the canal.
Carry on along the canal, admiring the ancient ruins of Corre Castle on your right (tower, statues, etc.) until you reach the final lock on the canal, which flows into the Saône.

(7) Take the small path on your right for about a hundred metres, then, on your right, a small bridge beckons, leading you to the main harbour at Corre. Walk along the harbour and turn at the harbour master’s office. Admire the harbour from the footbridge and continue to your right, going round it. Walk past the football pitch, then, when you reach the village hall, turn right onto Rue Maurice Boulanger.

(8) Turn right at the bakery and head for the second street.

(9) Turn left and return to your starting point (S/E).

A lovely walk.
The stretch through the fields between points 2 and 3 is magnificent.

A nice little walk to do between seasons: most of the route is treeless, and with the summers we’ve had recently, it’s likely to get quite hot!
