Description of the walk

Parking at the Conflandey town hall car park.

(S/E) Walk back down towards the village via Rue de l’Église. At the bottom, turn left onto the main road, then left again onto Rue de la Fontaine.

(1) A few metres beyond the village boundary, take the metal steps on your right and cross the bridge over the Saône. Continue straight on until you reach the Tréfileries site.

(2) Turn right and go under the railway bridge.

(3) Immediately afterwards, turn right onto a grassy path. Cross the meadows on either side and arrive at the Fermes de Jarges. Leave the small stream on your right and enter the forest, continuing along the path. Cross the D20 road and carry on straight ahead for about 250 m.

(4) Turn left at the first uphill section and follow it until you come out onto another line of trees running perpendicular to it. Head right to leave the woods, but at the edge, turn left onto a tree-lined path. Follow this to the village of Amoncourt.

(5) At the entrance to Amoncourt, turn immediately left onto the grassy path. Cross a few orchards, pass by two wayside crosses, then rejoin the D51 near the cemetery.

(6) Leave the village on the right (you’ll pass through it again a little further on), and continue carefully along the road. At the edge of the woods, take a grassy path on the left.
Carry on across the plain and, as you enter the Bois des Charmes, take thesecond path on your left. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the edge of the woods.

(7) Continue to the left and return to the village of Amoncourt. Walk through part of the village until you reach the D51.

(8) Turn left and stay on this road, walking carefully along the pavements until you reach another, busier road. Continue carefully along this road until you reach a picnic area (table).

(9) Turn right.

(3) Go under the bridge again and arrive back at the Tréfileries site.

(2) Continue to the right to go round the site and follow the Saône. After lock No. 4, cross the Saône and, immediately after the bridge, turn left. Pass close to the Moulin Rouge de Conflandey and, after the next house, turn right onto a small grassy path that climbs up to reach the town hall car park (S/E).

An easy walk, suitable even for families.
Some clearing of undergrowth around the signposts would be a bonus.

Apart from the site of the former Conflandey wire-drawing works (marred by the presence of a noisy sewage treatment plant), the walk is of little interest.
The exhibition of reproductions of photographs of families who once worked here is difficult to view due to the lush vegetation, which makes accessing the pictures rather tricky.

A lovely, pleasant and easy walk, offering varied scenery through woodland and open countryside (fields and meadows). It passes through the villages of Amoncourt and Conflandey. There’s a lovely view of the magnificent Conflandey Castle and a fine exhibition of historical photographs on the walls of the wire-drawing factory.

Although there are no signposts, the directions are precise enough to ensure you don’t go astray.
The scenery along the banks of the Saône is lovely, and the Trefilerie exhibition is superb.
It’s a shame it’s been a bad year for mosquitoes, which made walking through the woods rather unpleasant...

A short walk near my home due to the lockdown (travel restricted to 10 km); a lovely photography exhibition at Les Tréfileries – a refreshing outing at this time.
