Description of the walk

Access: From Montriond, follow the road to the lake and the Col de la Joux Verte as far as Les Lindarets. Walk through the village and park at the car park by the Lécherette bridge (ski lifts).

(S/E) Head up the wide track, passing the restaurant “Les Alpages”; just before the Chaux Fleurie chairlift station, you’ll come to thefirst junction (new walking route to the Abricotine refuge).

(1) Turn right onto the path. After about a hundred metres, turn left and cross the river via a wooden bridge. Turn left immediately and follow the river until you reach the chairlift landing area.
(2) Cross the river again and walk round the Abricotine refuge (opposite the top station of the Mossettes chairlifts), then head back up the track to the junction.

(3) At the ‘Brochaux’ sign, turn right and follow the wide track uphill to a junction with a small path near a pylon on the Mossettes ski lift line. A sign points to ‘Lac Vert’.

(4) Take the path on the left and follow a steep climb up to the Col de Chesery.

(5) At the pass, take the path on the right and follow theGR®5to the Chesery refuge and Lac Vert, which lies below.

(6) From the refuge, take the path on the left towards Lac de Chésery.

(7) At the fork by the mountain farm, turn right and head down to Lac de Chésery along a path.

(8) Head back up from the lake along the same path you took on the way down to the fork at the alpine farm.

(7) Take the wide path on the right to reach the Col de Chésery.

(5) At the pass, follow theGR®5to the right towards the Col de Bassachaux. Take the footpath (the one above is for mountain bikes only).

(9) At the junction, take the path that climbs towards the top station of the Chaux Fleurie chairlift.

(10) In front of the start of the “Fantasticable” zip line, continue along the track on the right which climbs up to the Tête de Lindaret, ignoring the various footpaths and mountain bike tracks that cross it. Panoramic view of the resort of Châtel and Lake Montriond.

(11) From the Tête de Lindaret, continue along the path down to the Col de Bassachaux. Take care on this descent, which crosses the mountain bike track about 250 m after the summit.

(12) From the pass, take the wide track that starts below the restaurant and follow theGR®5. Ignore a turn-off to the left and head for the Carrefour du Ramble.

(13) Continue south-east along theGR® and pass beneath the Chaux Fleurie chairlift. You’ll reach a flat stretch.

(14) At the fork, turn sharply right onto the wide track leading down towards Les Lindarets. Pass under the Chaux Fleurie chairlift again. Continue downhill, staying on this wide track (ignore the paths reserved for mountain bikes). Again, take care as some sections are shared by pedestrians and mountain bikers. Pass under the Chaux Fleurie chairlift once more to reach the car park (S/E).

Very few people on a hunting day… in the afternoon, it’s very busy. Lovely paths, blueberries and raspberries, stunning views and a lovely relaxing time at Lac Vert (which must be packed during the tourist season)
No particular difficulties

A lovely walk in the sunshine

We hesitated a bit at the start, because as we walked past the restaurant Les Alpages, we realised we weren’t on the suggested route.
Just so you know, we walked past the restaurant on our right, then further on the path veers right, following the signs for Lac Vert, and also leads to a wooden bridge. Apart from that, no problems at all

The walk is really lovely. It’s nice at the start, following the river. At the Abricotine mountain hut, we took a short detour to catch a glimpse of the beautiful Brochaux waterfall. The climb up to the Col de Chesery is quite a challenge; the group spread out a bit… The lakes are a lovely spot for a picnic. After that, it’s fairly gentle going until you reach the Fantasticable. It takes a bit of effort to get over the Tête des Lindarets. The final descent down the ski run is a bit of a strain on the knees…

We enjoyed the beautiful spring flowers, the scenery with the lakes and the stunning views all along the route, followed by a well-deserved cold beer on arrival
