Lac Vert from the Ardent cable car station

Departure from the upper station of the Ardent cable car. The lower station, which has a car park, is accessible via the D228 from Montriond via the lake.

(S/E) Head east-southeast, following the cable car line. After about 200 metres, you will come to a crossroads.

(1) Follow the path on the right (south). Soon head south-east and cross a river via a wooden bridge. Walk along the river on your left and follow the Lécherette chairlift line on your right. Pass under the chairlift line and, further on, cross the river again. You will soon reach the lower station of the Mossettes chairlift.

(2) Take the chairlift, which will take you to Switzerland, a short distance from Pointe des Mossettes.

(3) When you arrive at the chairlift, turn immediately left. Join a track and follow it to the right to go around the top station of a cable car going up the Swiss side on the left. Follow the direction of Lac Vert. At a crossroads, continue straight ahead (east) to reach Les Portes de l'Hiver.

(4) Turn left onto a track that descends towards Lac Vert. Turn left, then right, and you will immediately come to an intersection.

(5) Take a path on the left. Descend across the mountain pastures dotted with scree.

(6) Reach Lac Vert and walk along its right-hand side to the Refuge de Chésery.

(7) Turn left towards the Col de Chésery, leaving the refuge on your right, and head west to the pass.

(8) Continue west-northwest and follow the GR®5 (red and white markings) towards Col de Bassachaux. N.B. Two parallel paths at the start lead to the same place: take the one on the left, reserved for pedestrians (the one on the right is reserved for mountain bikes). Pass directly below Pointe de Chésery and reach a fork.

(9) Take the path on the left, which descends towards Les Lindarets, still following the GR®5. You will come to a crossroads on a flat section.

(10) Continue downhill north-northwest on a track suitable for vehicles (leave the GR® trail on your right). Pass under the Chaux Fleurie chairlift line and continue west-northwest.

(11) You will come to a track; follow it to the left towards the Plateau de la Lécherette and the Ardent cable car (upper station). Turn left at the hairpin bend, continue downhill, pass under the Chaux Fleurie chairlift line again and return to the junction you took at the start of the hike.

(1) Turn right to quickly return to the upper station of the Ardent cable car (S/E).

The Ardent cable car is open in July and August (in 2025, for example, from 27 June to 31 August), every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (tickets can be purchased until 5 p.m.).

Take the Mossettes chairlift between (2) and (3). It is open in July and August (in 2025, for example, from 27 June to 31 August), every day from 9.40 a.m. to 4.45 p.m.

Alternative route: climb to the right to reach the top of Chaux-Fleurie and finish on a footpath following the direction of Lindarets and Plateau de la Lécherette. This route is about 30 minutes longer.
