From Saint Martin de Vésubie, head towards Le Boréon and after the lake take the D89 towards La Vacherie de Salèse, Col de Salèse, until you reach the Salèse car park.
(S/E) The trailhead (towards Col de Salèse, Lac Nègre) is at the end of the car park, at the hairpin bend in the road that continues (closed to all unauthorised vehicles). The climb is between the torrent and the road at the bottom of the valley, following theGR®52, which is sporadically marked.
The trail crosses the road once at a hairpin bend and then rejoins it almost at the Col de Salèse.
(1) Once past the pass, continue along the track until you reach a left-hand bend.
(2) Take the path on the right (towards Lac Nègre, Pas du Préfouns) which continues along the mountainside (yellow markings). Cross the footbridge over the stream and then, about 50 metres further on, you will come to a fork.
(3) Follow the path on the right, which starts above a small wall with dry stone steps, and you will reach a flat area (Camp Soubran).
(4) Turn left and continue for a few more metres before reaching Lac Nègre.
(5) Follow the path that goes around the lake on the right, then climb gradually to end up on a steeper section, which is not very difficult thanks to the large switchbacks it makes until you reach the Pas du
Préfouns.
(6) Return by the same route (S/E).
