Description of the walk

The route starts from the Champ de Foire, also known as the Chaume de Perreuse. You can also start from the car park at the orientation table (6).

(S/E) Set off in the opposite direction to the village, heading south-west. Walk past the stopover lodge and head downhill to reach a four-way crossroads located after a small copse.

(1) Turn left. You will reach a crossroad.

(2) Turn right, ignoring the first path on the right. Take the second path, this one on the left. Continue straight on, ignoring the few side paths.

(3) Turn left, cross the tarmac road and immediately turn right. At the end of the copse on your left, turn right. At the next junction, turn left and you will come out onto a road.

(4) Take this road (D66) to the left for about a hundred metres (Take care!). Leave this road at the first path on the right, which climbs steadily. Ignore the side paths to reach a T-junction. Turn left and continue.

(5) Head straight on until you reach the road. Turn right twice in quick succession and you’ll soon reach the orientation table.

(6) Retrace your steps.

(5) Turn right, passing the cemetery on your right. At the cross, go straight on to reach Rue des Crôts. Turn right. Take Rue des Faubourgs on the left, then, in front of the war memorial, head up Grande Rue.

(7) Turn right into Rue de la Pommeraie, pass by some old houses and end up facing the church. At the well, turn right.

(8) Walk straight on past the Tilleul de Sully and turn into the next street on the right (Rue de la Chaume) (S/E).

Notes

Set on a hilltop, this route offers beautiful views. It is therefore best to walk it on a clear day. In strong sunshine, there is little shade along the route, so water, a cap and sunglasses are recommended.
This walk is organised bythe Puisaye-Forterre Tourist Office.
The route is signposted by the association À chacun son chemin en Puisaye-Forterre in accordance with the graphic guidelines of the Puisaye-Forterre Community of Communes, following the direction of the description, and is marked No. 25.
However, as the route is signposted, you must set off with at least this description and the accompanying IGN map or the Visorando app.
If you encounter any problems, please fill in this questionnaire (it only takes 1 to 2 minutes).
Take care when crossing roads.

Worth a visit

At (6), the orientation table site features an information panel on the history of the village of Perreuse as well as a map of the former fortified settlement.
At (8), the church is well worth a visit.
From the orientation table, a watershed becomes visible: on one side, to the right a few hundred metres below, the source of the Loing, which flows via the Seine into the English Channel; and to the west, below the village, the source of Saint-Mammès, which, via the Vrille, flows into the Loire and then into the Atlantic. These two springs, situated almost on the same contour line, are separated by just 1.5 km.

The village centre, with its old houses, is well worth a visit. In days gone by, the village’s wealth came from its vineyards, which were destroyed in the19th century by phylloxera.

Saint-Mammès is the patron saint of this village; he was born here in the early5th century.
La Grande Demoiselle, in exile in Puisaye, Countess of Saint-Fargeau, was Baroness of Perreuse; she had a mansion built there.

A fairly easy walk, with lovely views and a charming little village. However, it’s a shame that the neighbouring property owners have deliberately damaged several signposts, and at least one signpost is missing at point 1.

A pleasant walk with a slight incline. This walk is at its best in spring when the fields are in bloom. It’s open country, so there’s no shade. The view stretches as far as the Morvan, and the sign tells us about the village of Perreuse, a picturesque village steeped in history with its famous lime tree and old houses. We couldn’t get into the church yesterday – what a shame!
We noticed two signposts lying on the ground. Unless we’re mistaken, we didn’t see the start near the stopover lodge; otherwise, it’s well signposted, so there’s no risk of getting lost, but it’s a good idea to have the route description or even the IGN map.

We only managed part of the walk due to a lack of time. But we stayed up on the hills and the scenery was magnificent.
