Description of the walk

La Comté, car park on Rue de l'Église.

(S/E) Head north for 20 metres to reach Grand Rue. Follow it to the right until you reach a T-junction (opposite the stadium, now locked up tight!). Turn left, following the GR®127, into Rue du Moulin. Cross the Lawe (waterfall) and reach the D86. Continue straight ahead and climb with the GR®127 for 1.5 km to reach a T-junction.

(1) Leave the GR®. Take the path on the right. At the end of the path, turn right along the edge of the field. After 200 metres, turn left, then right again to join a wide path. After a good kilometre, you will reach a crossroads.

(2) Continue straight ahead (south). At the three-way junction, follow the path on the right and continue to the D 74.
Follow it to the right, ignore the first path on the left and, 200 m further on, find a second one.

(3) Turn left onto this path, which is quite difficult going downhill and sometimes very wet in the lower part: you may find yourself walking in the stream! At the bottom, turn left and you will reach a small road.

(4) Continue straight ahead to reach Rue des Allobroges. Then turn left and arrive at the cemetery. Just before it, take the path going up to the right.

(5) At the top, turn right. Follow the path along the ridge and you will reach a crossroads. Continue straight ahead on the D83 for 200 m.

(6) At the three-way junction, take the path on the right. Turn right at a 90° angle and continue for another 1 km.

(7) Don't miss the pretty path on the left (be careful, it's not very visible) which descends towards the Lawe near its source. Follow the small road on the left (Rue de la Lawe). Climb gently and turn into thefirst path on the right to reach the D86 downhill. Follow it on the left, ignore the path on the right and continue for 100 m.

(8) At the end of the bend, take the path on the left edge of the woods (do not be tempted by the previous path that crosses the woods). At the crossroads before Monchy-Breton, turn right and continue to a crossroads (calvary).

(9) Leave the road on your right, take the path opposite (north-east) and follow it to a T-junction where you will find the GR®.

(10) Turn right and continue for 700 m until you reach thefirst path on the left. Leave the GR®. Turn left onto this path and continue until you reach a crossroads.

(11) Turn onto the path on the left. It veers to the right, crosses the Bois de Bajus and joins a small road. Follow it to the left for 500 metres, then turn right into Rue de la Gare. Join a small road, follow it to the left for a few metres to reach the old Bajus station (it is marked on the sign).

(12) Take the old railway line on the right and follow it to the D86E2.

(13) Cross it and continue on the footbridge to the bridge (about 400 metres).

(14) Cross the bridge to find a staircase on the left leading to the path below. Pass under the bridge and continue along the wide path (heading south to reach the first houses of La Comté.

(15) At the fork, take the grassy path on the left (south-east). Cross the Bajus via the footbridge and reach the houses.

(16) Turn right, then immediately left onto the wide grassy path to walk along the gardens and reach a small road. Follow it to the left, turn immediately right and reach a left-hand bend.

(17) Leave the road and follow the path on the right (wagon track). Join Grand Rue. Follow it on the left and turn immediately right to reach the car park (S/E).

As this problem is becoming recurrent (the municipality does not seem too concerned about maintaining the paths) and a bit of a nuisance, I have modified the end of the route after point 12. It is a bit longer, but the paths are pleasant.

A very beautiful hike, as I already mentioned.
One small unexpected issue: the brambles at point 13 have grown back and the path behind is overgrown with nettles.
to avoid this problem, follow the route from point 12 to the D86. Turn left, then right onto Rue Saint Germain. At number 70, enter the field on the right. At the end, take the path (PR) and cross the stream (bridge). When you reach a paved lane, take the path on the right. Turn left, leaving the path that leads to point 13 on your right. You are now back on the path that will take you back to the starting point of the hike.

A beautiful hike with varied landscapes, a few hills, beautiful paths with some slippery sections in wet weather, but without too much difficulty.
For those who want to picnic under cover in a café between points 8 and 9, head to the village of Monchy-Breton (an additional 1.2 km round trip). Just call 03 21 03 16 19 to make a reservation at Café Tartous et Compagnie, 2 rue du 8 Mai. The welcome is very friendly and surprising. The owner even opens for groups of hikers outside of her normal opening hours by reservation. This café deserves to be included on the list of cafés_rando

I had hiked in the area on 24 November, before the rainy spell.
The paths were still in pretty good condition.
I think the field edge between points 1 and 2 must be very slippery now.
As for the stream just before Magnicourt, it must be quite full. But with good shoes, it's not too much of a problem.
The coming weeks are shaping up to be difficult. Keep your spirits up!
See you soon, I hope.

I undertook this hike in very difficult conditions, as it was very wet, flooding was beginning in the region and some paths were difficult to navigate or even completely flooded. Particular caution is therefore required when the weather is very bad. But that's part of the appeal: the region is very pleasant, the landscapes are varied and the views of the Artois hills and slag heaps are well worth the detour. I will happily do this route again in summer to enjoy the different colours.

Thank you, Joorange, for all the walks you suggest!

very beautiful route, countryside scenery, but also very wooded, very quiet, the descriptions are spot on, a few sections are not maintained, but nothing too annoying. I saw squirrels, rabbits, pheasants... There are some hills. I recommend it.
well done for this walk, definitely worth doing.

Well, thank goodness it didn't rain!

21 km with less than 2 km on the road isn't too bad.

As Laurent says, "Happiness isn't at the end of the road, it's the road itself..."

I have modified the description.

It's true that I've never seen a microlight there, and that's no bad thing.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you have any trouble finding us? Did you get lost? Maybe I should remove the mention of the microlight base?
Kind regards

Hello, not a very pleasant hike except for the wooded sections. The microlight base has been gone for 4-5 years. Avoid in strong winds as there is a lot of flat ground. The palm court is of little interest as it is not listed. Enjoy the climb!

good hike, but there were a few things that slowed us down, such as the microlight base, which we are still looking for!!!
Alternating between tarmac and grassy paths, uphill and downhill, and even with our feet in the water
Pretty landscapes
