Description of the walk

Parking is available in the town hall car park or in the village.
Blue markings

(S/E) From the town hall junction, head towards Place de l'Église via Route de Beaumesnil. At the next Y-junction, turn left onto Rue des 2 Mares.

(1) At the next T-junction, turn right to follow Rue des 2 Mares. Continue along this road for approximately 680 m, ignoring two turn-offs to the right. After the sign for La Querrière, at the following right-hand bend, take the first path on the left and ignore the one leading straight ahead.

(2) At the end of the track, at the T-junction, turn left and immediately take the track on the right. Ignore the track on the right; at the Y-junction, ignore the left-hand branch and continue straight ahead to the road.

(3) Cross Route de Montreuil and continue along the path straight ahead. At the Y-junction, continue straight ahead, ignoring the right-hand branch, and carry on until you reach the road. Cross the road and continue straight ahead along Rue de la Viretterie until you reach the cemetery.

(4) Take Rue de la Corandière straight ahead. At the Y-junction that follows, ignore the road on the right and continue straight ahead along Rue de la Ferme.

(5) At the end, at a place called "la Haucardière", turn right and leave the tarmac to follow the path straight ahead. Turn into the first path on the left and continue to the road.

(6) Turn right onto Rue des Rouliers and continue straight on for about 950 m along the road that climbs.

(7) Take the path on the left to enter the forest. At the gate, take the footpath through the small gate on the left, making sure to close it properly behind you, and follow the path opposite. After a short while, in a clearing, the Manoir du Val Boncœur comes into view on the right. Continue straight ahead along the path to reach the exit gate; remember to close it properly behind you.

(8) At the Y-junction after the gate, turn left onto Chemin du Petit Bois. At the next Y-junction, continue left onto Rue du Châtaignier until the next junction.

(9) Turn left onto Rue de la Mare Morin, walk a few metres and take the first path on the left at a sharp angle. Then, at the bottom of the gentle descent, take the first path on the right, which goes uphill. Continue along this path, ignoring the paths branching off to the left, and pass by a stud farm. At the crossroads after the stud farm, continue straight ahead downhill (a fairly steep descent for about 15 metres) until you reach the road.

(10) Turn right onto Rue des Rouliers, walk for about 850 m, turn left and continue to the road. Follow the path straight ahead to the next road.

(11) Turn right onto Route de Beaumesnil to return to the town hall, the starting point. (S/E)

Notes

Blue-marked route, with some markings faded or not visible in places.

At point (8) there is a picnic table.

At points (3), (4) and (10), the street names are listed in the route description, but do not look for the signs, which are located at the other end of the streets.

A superb, varied and interesting route, thanks to the authentically Norman landscapes it passes through. One place stands out, however: Val Bon Coeur is well worth the detour on its own, with its pretty, somewhat secluded manor house. I do wonder, though, how the owners get there: there are only paths, no roads. It’s a timeless place, far from the modern world, like a vast clearing in the Forest of Beaumont. The huge meadow was covered in yellow flowers, the sort of place that makes you want to stop and sit down just to watch nature,
The blue markings are in place and the official route has even been shortened slightly after the first pond (with the bench – a lovely spot for a picnic). So it’s not obvious if you only have the map for the first part: with GPS there’s no problem, and the markings leave no room for doubt.

Good evening, Yves,

The street names are included solely as a service to walkers who like to follow the IGN map. Indeed, the signs are located at the end of the streets indicated, but there’s nothing I can do about that.
Thank you for reminding me about the picnic table at point 8; I’ll include it in the practical information.

Thank you again for your contribution and your analysis of the route.

Kind regards
Benoit

Hello,

Hike completed today, 26/08/2020. No particular comments; the blue markings are generally quite visible and provide good guidance for hikers like my wife and me.

A few minor comments:

- At point 8, just as you come out of the forest on the right, there is a picnic table which we really enjoyed. Perhaps this could be mentioned in the practical information.
- At point 3, there is no sign indicating Rue de la Viretterie, except when arriving at the cemetery at point 4. In our opinion, it is therefore pointless to mention this as we had to look for the sign. The same applies to Rue de la Ferme at point 4 and Rue des Rouliers at point 10. Perhaps mention that the sign is actually at the end, to reassure walkers.

Otherwise, enjoy the walk.

Kind regards.
