La Grande Moucherolle via its ridge

There are several ways to reach the foot of the Grande Moucherolle, which is really the main attraction of this hike. This route takes you along the fastest slopes.
A superb, aerial hike, but not very technical or dangerous, with an approach via the ski slopes and, at the top, a breathtaking panorama.
Please note: this hike is classified as Very Difficult for an average hiker (IBP = 111) due to steep slopes and some exposed sections.

Description of the walk

Parking at the Clos de la Balme car park.

(S/E) From the car park, head towards the ski lift departure point and then climb up the forest path to the right of the slopes. (Almost all hikes in Corrençon take this path.) Continue to the crossroads (altitude 1440).

(1) Leave the forest path to the left to pass under the old Combeauvieux chairlift, continue straight on to the Clos de la Balme mixed chairlift. Go up to the right and join the top of the Télémix.

(2) Turn right for about 150 m and, to the left, follow the Arolles ski lift more or less. When it turns right, leave it and head left towards the foot of the Grande Moucherolle in a fairly natural way. You will then arrive on the right side of the foot of the ridge.

(3) Find a track, more or less well marked, that goes up to the starting point after a few hairpin bends.
As you climb, you will need to head back towards the Grande Moucherolle ridge to find a fairly thin cable that will help you find your way during the "climbing" part of the ascent. See practical information.
The path tends towards the left of the ridge (no more cable) where you will find a trail running along the ridge on the left under the rock.
Continue along the wall until you reach the Grande Moucherolle window.

(4) After a break, continue south-east, still to the left of the ridge (there are still a few sections of cable, which are still just as thin) to reach the avalanche trigger a little higher up.
From there, continue along the well-marked path, keeping more or less along the ridge, until you reach the path coming from the Col des Moucherolles.

(5) Follow the path to the left to the summit (a few blue markings).

(6) Enjoy the view, then return to the previous junction via the path you took on the way up.

(5) Turn left towards Col des Moucherolles and begin the descent. A few blue markers indicate the route, which is quite exposed in places. After a few descents, you will reach Col des Moucherolles via a stony path.

(7) Option to extend the route – see practical information.
From there, as indicated on the map, descend directly via the ski slopes to the junction of the circular route.

(1) Return to the car park (S/E) via the forest path taken on the way up.

Notes

(3) The ascent is very easy but requires the use of your hands, especially on the first few steps.
Please note: the cable is not a safety cable. It is only useful as a handrail and for orientation.

(7) From the pass, you can decide to climb up to Petite Moucherolles and, if you wish, continue on to Pas de la Balme and Tête des Chaudières.

This hike is classified as Very Difficult for an average hiker (IBP = 111).

A beautiful climb to the peaks. Not very busy except for the animals, which are numerous at the summits. The effort required is only relative... The descent from the Grande Moucherolle is slightly different from the description. Return to the clearing to follow the path (scree).

The description is accurate. I just want to point out that the sections marked as exposed really are exposed. It's more like climbing with the aid of cables than sections where you just need to use your hands, and it lasts for quite a while. It's subjective, of course, but I think this route is best reserved for experienced hikers who are comfortable with this type of terrain.

Very good, no complaints, thanks to the author.
There are a few tricky sections that are quite exposed, in fairly steep corridors, but they are passable for experienced hikers.

Vertiginous and somewhat acrobatic. Caution advised for those who are easily affected.

A minor error in route tracking resulted in a small risk being taken over a distance of approximately 150 metres.

A very beautiful hike, quite exposed once you start climbing the Grande Moucherolle ridge, but rewarded with magnificent views over this part of the route.
