Description of the walk

Park in the Hauts Plateaux car park, also known as the golf course car park, located about 1 km after the village of Corrençon-en-Vercors.

(S/E) The walk starts at the Les Hauts Plateaux restaurant.
Take the GR® 91 trail heading south and follow it until you reach a place called Rocher de l'Échalet. You will soon arrive at La Croix de Jacques. Leave the path that branches off to the right towards Pierre Copante. Continue straight ahead, following the signs for Le Clariant, then Champ de la Bataille, a famous meadow that you will reach after about half an hour's walk.

(1) Keep left on theGR®® 91, leaving the Auberge du Clariant on your right. Continue following the signs for Croix de la Messe, Hauts plateauxGR®®91and Les Feuillus to reach the Rochers de l'Echalet crossroads.

(2) Here, leave theGR®®91by turning right. After a short, easy climb, you will reach the Lautaret.

Alternative
From point (2), if you wish to extend the hike slightly (just under 1.5 km), stay on theGR®® 91 to reach Les Ravières, then continue in the direction of the 45th parallel until you reach Le Camp Deux.
At this point, leave theGR®® 91 on your left and take the small path on the right which, after a short climb, will take you to Lautaret in about 20 minutes. Continue the hike as described from the point below.

(3) Leave the path that branches off to the left towards Le Camp Deux and continue to the right on the path that climbs gently and then descends into the forest, through rocks and sharp limestone pavements. Follow the blue and pink marks painted on the stones along the path, or the yellow and green marks on the trees, to easily reach the Auberge du Clariant.

(4) Take the wide stony path on your left and continue straight ahead. Then slowly make your way back to the Champ de la Bataille crossroads, which you passed on the way there.

(1) Retrace your steps to return to the Hauts Plateaux car park (S/E)

Notes

There is no water on the route.
Walking shoes, such as trainers, are sufficient.
(3) Le Lautaret: a small educational workshop is located here
The route is clearly marked by numerous directional posts and/or yellow and green markings, sometimes pink and blue, particularly between (3) and (4).

Worth a visit

Between (S/E) and (1) Biathlon shooting range: after seeing the biathletes training on the asphalt track reserved for roller skis, you can watch them from a distance as they practise their rifle shooting.
(1) The place known as Champ de la Bataille evokes the battle of 1410, during which the troops of the Bishop of Die were defeated by those of the Count of Sassenage.
(3) Lautaret educational workshop: here, three viewing devices allow you to observe in situ the effect of water runoff and glacier movement on limestone rocks over thousands of years.
(4) At the site of the Auberge du Clariant, you will come across some very interesting information about the size of limestone boundary stones in the 19th century (explanatory panel and example of stones being cut)
These markers were used to identify the boundaries of forest plots.
