From Corrençon-en-Vercors to the Jasse du Play

First stage of a 4-day crossing of the Vercors. It’s a long trek but the elevation gain isn’t excessive.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Traversée du Plateau du Vercors

Description of the walk

(S) From the car park, head towards Corrençon Golf Course. Head due south along theGR®91, which you will follow all day.
At first you’ll be on a good track, but shortly after entering the forest it turns into a path.

(1) You’ll pass the marker indicating the45th parallel, 2 km before reaching the Cabane de Carrette, where you can take shelter to eat in case of bad weather.

(2) From the Carrette clearing, continue along theGR®91, which heads west before joining another path in the Darbounouse clearing.

(3) Head south again. At the end of the Canyon des Erges, you arrive at the Tiolache du Haut clearing.

(4) Head to the Tiolache du Milieu clearing (a very small hut that is difficult to find, if not impossible in fog). If you still have time (and energy), it is best to continue on to the Jasse du Play (S/E). The hut is on the path and is relatively large.

Notes

To reach Corrençon by bus: Transisère
For all information on mountain huts and water points: Refuges.info

Please note: as the Vercors huts are unstaffed, and backpacking is quite common in the area, it is advisable to bring everything you need for a bivouac! Similarly, bring plenty of water; it is better to carry 2 litres too much than to run out.

As a reminder, the regulations of the Hauts-Plateaux du Vercors Nature Reserve impose the following main restrictions:
- Dogs are prohibited, even on a lead.
- Flying at an altitude of less than 300 m is prohibited (therefore drones and paragliders are prohibited).
- Fires are prohibited.
- Deliberately disturbing wildlife is prohibited (take care not to disturb marmots and ibex, amongst others!).
- Picking plants is prohibited.
- Camping is prohibited, but bivouacking is permitted from 5 pm to 9 am.
- Littering is prohibited (including in the shelters open to all!).
These strict regulations are necessary to protect the species and habitats that inhabit this wild and unspoilt area!

We did it in mid-August. It’s quite a climb, but spending the night at Jasse du Play and watching the sun rise over the ridges is magnificent. There’s water at Fontaine du Play. Next time, we’ll do the whole crossing!

A round-trip hike to the Jasse du Play mountain hut (in good condition, with a saw available).
It’s a bit chilly in November, but the nature reserve is very beautiful.

That’s what I did back then, too. We crossed the plateau in four days (a friend was meeting us above Archiane) and that hike was our first stage. The next ones took us to the Baraque du Pison (sheltered from the wind below the plateau), then to the Cabane de l’Essaure and finally to Clelles.
A friend had dropped us off at Corrençon (we’d got the bus times wrong when leaving Grenoble) and we’d returned by train from Clelles four days later.
The presence of this chalet in this location is undoubtedly linked to the existence of springs.

Hello.
In fact, this hike was the first day of our trek across the Vercors to Clelles. (approx. 50 km – 2½ days).
One of my friends, who has owned a chalet in Corrençon for many years, was our guide. From time to time I checked the route, which turned out to be accurate.
We spent the night at the Jasse du Play refuge, which was sparsely equipped but had a stove that we were able to fuel with wood gathered from the surrounding area, and we topped up our water supplies as there are springs nearby.
An easy walk, apart from the length of the journey if you’re heading on to other destinations or returning to Corrençon.
The scenery is magnificent.
From Clelles, we returned to Corençon by SNCF train to Grenoble, then by bus to Villars de Lens, and finally by taxi for the last 8 km.
