The Fontaine des Graves in Tamniès

Arriving via the D48, and after passing the Étang de Tamniès on your left, turn right at the Fork in the road to head up into the village. Walk through the village and park in the car park at the Salle des Fêtes.

(S/E) Set off to the right, following the Route de la Côte, and pass through Balestou.

(1) Turn left towards Le Castanet. Continue left along a grassy path that runs alongside the houses until you reach the Chemin des Rozières. Follow it to the right and continue along the road to the right. Ignore the Impasse des Vignes on the left and carry on for another hundred metres.

(2) Turn left. The road soon becomes a path that descends into the valley, passing the Fontaine des Graves and then the Graves public hut.
Off the route: At the edge of the woods, follow a path to the right for 50 metres to reach the Cayrou des Graves hut.
Join a wide track.

(3) Follow it to the right. On the right, at the edge of the woods at the bottom of a meadow, is the Mérilier hut. The track leads onto the Route de la Beune, the D48.

(4) Turn right onto the departmental road. At the Fork in the road, take the road on the left and, after about a hundred metres, turn left towards the stadium. Note the Brunier public washhouse on the right and cross the valley.

(5) At the start of the bend, turn right onto the path running along the edge of the woods. Follow it all the way along.
As you proceed, you’ll be able to enjoy various views of Tamniès. Cross the Chemin de la Rivière Haute, continuing straight on. The path makes its first detour to reach the Moulin du Rusquet. After the Moulin de Campagnac, it makes a second detour to approach the Moulin du Maillet. The path ends at a road.

(6) Turn right to cross the valley again and reach the D48. Take care on the 100-metre stretch to the right.

(7) Carry on to the left, taking a steep path that leads to La Marchandie. Continue to the right until you reach a road.

(8) Turn left, then very quickly follow the road to the right leading to La Brunerie. Go round the houses on the right and, at the crossroads, continue to the left. Off the route: on the right in the meadow: La Marchandie fountain.

(9) Turn right towards Petit Salignac. In the hamlet, on the left, note the dovecote-porch-oven. Continue along the road until you reach a crossroads.

(10) Follow the Route d’Escamps to the right and make your way down the winding road to the junction.

(11) Turn left and walk past the fountain and the Escamps hut. Leave the Route des Daims on your left.

(12) On the left, follow the “Tamniès piétons” path uphill. Continue to the left; after a hotel on your right and a car park on your left, you’ll reach the Route de la Côte.

(13) Follow it to the left. Walk past the weighbridge and head for the Salle des Fêtes car park (S/E).

The route is fully signposted in accordance with the PDIPR (Departmental Plan for Walking and Hiking Routes) signposting code, namely:
- Round wooden posts topped with a yellow cap for circular routes and a green cap for connecting routes.
- Below this is a yellow bar indicating the direction to follow.

This route is listed as No. 23 in the booklet “Walks and Hikes in the Sarladais”.

Note: from (8) to (13), the route follows small tarmac country roads with little traffic.
