Description of the walk

The hike starts at the Pech-Mortier farmhouse inn, where parking is available.
This walk follows some of the yellow PR® signposts.

(S/E) Start by following the yellow signposts, which begin just at the corner of the old dairy farm. Go down a wide stony path and go through a gate (close it behind you). This path is mainly wooded with a section along the edge of the forest and a small clearing where numerous daturas (an invasive poisonous plant) or devil's grass bloom in the valley. Avoid walking too close to them. The path then climbs back up through the undergrowth to Palomière.

(1) Continue along the road towards Clissac, passing by a pretty little spring covered with slate, then turn left at the crossroads onto the road to the Forêt de Lasserre.

(2) After 200 m, turn right at the entrance to the castle (private property). To see it, continue along this path, passing a garage, then turn left across the fields. The castle is on the left of the road, with its 19th-century keep. The road continues straight ahead, with beautiful views of the region on either side, then enters the woods and descends towards the Beune valley. You will then come to a wide road that runs alongside the Beune.

(3) Follow this path to the left to soon reach the ruins of the Moulin de Lasserre. Three sections of wall remain near a house in the valley, dominated by another house with 19th-century decorations. There are still a few millstones and the buttresses that supported the gables of the original wheel, as well as an arch where the Beune river used to flow. The river now flows a little further down the valley.

(4) Then retrace your steps to the previous crossroads.

(3) Continue for 50 m before taking a short stretch of road on the right, signposted in yellow, towards Marcillac, which quickly turns into a path through the woods. In this young woodland, following the signposts, you will walk along a stone wall on your left, part of which has been recently (2019-2022) rebuilt. Go to the wine vat, the entrance to which is at the other end of the wall. Here you can discover the history of this place. Continue along the path to the road, then turn right towards Les Bernats.

(5) Cross this hamlet and, at the Croix de Berthal, turn left to reach the fountain.

(6) Continue straight ahead, quickly cross a road and turn slightly left to pass in front of the church of Marcillac. Cross the village following the yellow signs towards Les Granges, then towards La Pomparie until you come to a pretty little well. The path widens along the way and crosses the Beune to reach a road.

(7) Follow this road on the right towards Marcillac-Saint-Quentin. This section is a bit difficult as there is some traffic.

(8) At the place called La Coste, follow a path on the right.

(9) At the Croix de Veyssière crossroads, continue straight ahead towards La Vergne, then, at the entrance to the hamlet, follow a path on the left. At the road, turn left to reach the hamlet of Pech de Lavergne.

(10) Once again, follow the road for a short distance until you reach La Christopherie.

(11) Turn left to reach La Palomière and the intersection you passed at the start of the hike.

(1) Take the same route back to Pech Mortier (S/E).
